Peer support works, because healing happens with connection.

Studies show that when individuals with substance use challenges are supported by peers with lived experience, outcomes improve, trust deepens, and engagement in treatment increases. Peer supporters bring empathy, encouragement, and real insight that helps break down barriers in recovery.

At Freedom House, we know that connection matters, and peer support is one of the ways healing becomes possible.

Supporting a partner in recovery isn’t about fixing them, it’s about walking beside them.

Recovery takes honesty, patience, boundaries, and accountability. It means having hard conversations, giving each other space to grow, and letting actions rebuild trust over time.

And just as importantly, it means recognizing that your healing matters too.

When both people commit to growth, recovery becomes something you move through, together. 💙

If you or someone you love needs support, we’re here to help.

Diane’s House is more than a recovery program; it’s a place where women are given the opportunity to rebuild their lives with real support, structure, and purpose. 💙

Located in Mercer County, Diane’s House provides recovery housing and case management services for women working through substance use and co-occurring disorders. What makes the program truly unique is its focus on family reunification, helping mothers reconnect with their children while continuing their recovery journey in a safe, supportive environment.

Through guidance from on-site staff, life skills development, and support toward independent living, women are given the tools they need to create stable, healthy futures, not just for themselves, but for their families. Because recovery doesn’t just change one life… it changes generations.

Luck may be part of the season, but real transformation comes from something deeper: community. 🍀

This St. Patrick’s Day, we’re celebrating the residents doing the hard work of recovery, the staff who guide them, the families who stand beside them, and the supporters who make it all possible.

Recovery doesn’t happen by chance. It happens when people come together with compassion, commitment, and hope. 💚

With spring right around the corner, it’s a reminder that change and renewal are always possible.

Research shows that spending time in nature can significantly support mental and emotional health. Being outdoors helps lower stress, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve mood, and increase focus. Even light activity like walking or gardening boosts endorphins and supports overall well-being.

As the days get longer and sunlight increases, improved sleep patterns and higher vitamin D levels can also positively impact emotional stability, both important in the recovery process.

Spring symbolizes new beginnings. Fresh air, movement, and meaningful connection outdoors can strengthen mindfulness, gratitude, and resilience, all key components of lasting recovery.

At Freedom House, we believe healing happens in many forms, and sometimes it begins with simply stepping outside.

If you or someone you love needs support, we’re here.

One of the most common questions we receive is: “Will I be able to work while I’m in treatment?”

At Freedom House, employment is more than a requirement, it’s part of the recovery process. Securing and maintaining meaningful work helps build structure, accountability, confidence, and independence.

For our Halfway House residents, full-time employment is an important step toward long-term stability and reintegration into the community.

Recovery isn’t about putting life on hold, it’s about rebuilding it.

For Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting a critical, and often overlooked, part of the recovery journey: the barriers many women face when seeking help for addiction.

Women often experience stigma and judgment more intensely due to societal expectations and traditional caregiving roles. Mothers in particular may delay treatment out of fear of losing custody or lacking support with childcare. Women are also more likely to encounter co-occurring mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, and PTSD, all factors that can make seeking help harder.

These gender-specific obstacles can delay access to care and make recovery seem out of reach, which is why compassionate, trauma-informed support matters so much. During Women’s History Month and beyond, we honor the strength of women in recovery and acknowledge the systemic barriers they work to overcome every day.

If you or someone you love needs help, Freedom House is here. 💙
