Harm reduction is changing the way we approach addiction and recovery.

Across New Jersey, expanded access to life-saving resources is helping reduce stigma, prevent overdose, and connect individuals to the care they need, meeting people where they are in their journey.

At Freedom House, we believe in that same approach. Through accessible, supportive programs, we’re committed to helping individuals take meaningful steps toward recovery, stability, and long-term healing.

Because everyone deserves care, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild. 💙

Recovery doesn’t always feel like progress, and that can be one of the most discouraging parts of the process. We tend to look for big moments: milestones, breakthroughs, visible change. But much of recovery happens quietly, in the small decisions made every day.

Progress can look like pausing before reacting, asking for support, or simply getting through a difficult day without returning to old patterns. It may feel steady or even uneventful, but that steadiness is often a sign that real healing is taking place.

If your recovery feels “quiet” right now, that doesn’t mean it isn’t working. In many cases, those are the moments where the strongest foundations are built. You don’t have to see it to be moving forward.

Many mothers in recovery lack the emotional and community support needed to navigate sobriety. Without it, feelings of isolation, shame, and self-doubt can grow, making the journey even more challenging.

With the right support systems in place, like safe housing, guidance, and community, recovery becomes more sustainable, and families have a better opportunity to heal together. 🤝

At Freedom House, we’re committed to providing that support every step of the way.

One of the most common questions we hear: How long will treatment take? 🤔

The truth is, recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every individual’s journey is different, and the length of stay can vary based on personal needs and progress.

At Freedom House, residential treatment typically averages 4–6 months, providing the time and support needed to build a strong foundation for long-term recovery. 🏠

Watching someone you love go through recovery can feel overwhelming, especially if you don’t know what to say or do.

The truth is, you don’t need to have all the answers. Just being there, staying patient, and showing support can make a bigger impact than you realize.

Recovery isn’t a straight line, and neither is learning how to support someone through it. 💙

If this helped you better understand what they might be going through, save it for later or share it with someone who needs it.

A recent decision in New Jersey has sparked important conversations around how opioid settlement funds are used.

These funds were originally intended to support recovery programs, housing, and community-based services, resources that play a vital role in helping individuals and families impacted by substance use.

Advocates are now working to ensure this funding reaches the programs and communities it was meant to support, because thoughtful investment in recovery can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
