You may hear the term “Code White” in discussions about EMS operations. A Code White means that all staffed 911 ambulances are currently committed to other assignments and not immediately available. These events are tracked in the Anderson County E911 CAD system.

It’s important to note that this does not always mean no resources are available, basic life support (BLS) units or other options may still be able to respond.

On average, these events last about 10 minutes, with 72% in 2025 occurring between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. They do not happen every day, Code Whites occurred on 42% of days in 2025, averaging about 4 per day on those days.

This is not unique to our community. EMS systems locally and across the country experience similar challenges. When needed, we work with neighboring agencies through mutual aid to ensure calls are answered. In 2025, mutual aid was requested 39 times.

Anderson County EMS has made requests during the budget process last year and this year to help improve this issue.

Just finished up two great NAEMT courses, GEMS and PTEP. These courses are invaluable to our daily operations learning more about geriatric emergencies and psychological trauma that our patients may encounter during their medical or traumatic emergency.

⚠️ WINTER WEATHER ALERT ⚠️

Anderson County Emergency Management is closely monitoring the potential for significant winter weather that could impact our area this weekend. This system may bring snow, ice, or a combination of both.

We are actively coordinating with our state and local partners to determine what actions may be needed as the situation develops.

According to UUS National Weather Service Morristown Tennessee impactful wintry precipitation looks likely for Anderson County. However, there remains significant uncertainty regarding the exact type and amount of precipitation. We expect forecast updates throughout the week and will share information as we receive it.

Anderson County EMA urges residents to start preparing NOW!

✅ Check your supplies: 1 gallon of water per person/per day (plan for 2-4 days). Don’t forget pets and livestock!
✅ Medications: Ensure you have a 3-5 day supply of prescriptions and medical necessities.
✅ Winter Kit: Check flashlights, batteries, blankets, and power banks.
✅ Vehicles: Fuel up ahead of time. Check tires, wipers, and washer fluid.
✅ Heating Safety: If using alternative heat sources (kerosene, wood), ensure proper ventilation. NEVER run generators, grills, or fuel-powered equipment indoors. Now is a good time to fill propane tanks if needed!
✅ Power: Be prepared for potential outages caused by ice, downed trees, or power lines. Keep phones charged and have a power bank or car charger just in case.

🚗 Travel Warning: Roads may become hazardous or impassable. Plan to limit travel once precipitation starts, especially in higher elevations and on secondary roads.

Prepare now rather than waiting until conditions worsen. Reach out to ACEMA with any questions!

BE PREPARED, NOT SCARED.
