A proper diagnosis when ADHD is suspected can make the difference between success and failure for the child or adult who is struggling to cope with school, home, work, or social situations. Inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity are three common signs of ADHD; however these symptoms may also be associated with other conditions. It is estimated that, in my career, I have evaluated and diagnosed over 20,000 children and adults with ADHD, learning, or emotional problems. I also treat these problems through therapy. A comprehensive evaluation for CHILDREN helps parents, teachers, and the medical profession with treatment planning. The testing may include intelligence, achievement, behavioral, and emotional areas. Parent and teacher questionaires are also used. Testing designed to test for ADULT ADHD is used in the adult population, in addition to other mental issues. Medical doctors and nurse practioners are often requiring an evaluation by a psychologist before medication is prescribed. Schools and colleges also require this diagnosis before special classroom planning is allowed. The Test of Variable Intelligence I use can also show how one is responding to medication by pre and post testing.
