Oscar-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg announced on the TODAY Show that he will donate a kidney to a stranger this December in an act known as an altruistic or non-directed donation.
“I got bitten by the blood donation bug,” he said. “It’s essentially risk-free and so needed. It’s a no-brainer.”
Eisenberg began the process through NYU Langone Health and says his family will be protected under the National Kidney Foundation’s voucher program, which prioritizes loved ones should they ever need a transplant.
More than 90,000 Americans are waiting for a kidney transplant. Living donors like Eisenberg are helping bridge the gap—one life-saving gift at a time.
