There is a big difference between needing a nap and physically needing to sleep right now. It’s easy to confuse Narcolepsy with general fatigue, but here is how to tell them apart:
Fatigue feels like:
- Running on empty batteries
- Physical or mental exhaustion that builds up
- Feeling "heavy" or drained
Narcolepsy looks like:
- Sleep Attacks: Sudden, uncontrollable urges to sleep, even while talking or eating.
- Cataplexy: Sudden muscle weakness (like knees buckling) triggered by laughter or surprise.
- Vivid Dreams: Dreaming instantly upon closing your eyes.
If your "tiredness" comes with sudden muscle weakness or vivid hallucinations, it's time to see a specialist.
