Happy Lunar New Year!

2021 The Golden Ox Year

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! May the Year of the Metal Ox bring you health, prosperity and love.

Gone is the tumultuous year of the Rat, 2020. It brought us many serious challenges and significant changes in our world. Let us hope we all can transform the difficulties, pain and loss into a healthier, more compassionate world.

Check out this forecast from our favorite Asian Astrologer, Lillian Peal Bridges. (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0914/1204/files/Year_of_the_Ox_Forecast.pdf?v=1611878469)

The Iowa Acupuncture Clinic also endured and evolved during 2020. The year and the pandemic have greatly reinforced our mission to care for others and support the health and spirit of our community.

2021 marks the beginning of our 25th year in business and a renewal. We have extended our lease and have begun rejuvenating our space, our staff and our technology.

Our new employees, Stefanie and Season are bringing their own unique style and abilities to the clinic. They both share the passion and interest in health and holistic lifestyles. As with all of our past employees, they share our desire to support and inspire the healing of our community. They look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you. We also must mention the cameo of our daughter Jazmin who has greatly enjoyed an active role in our clinic transitions. She is the creative mind responsible for the look and feel of our new website: iowaacupuncture.com

Another big change is our technology. Those of you who have been with us for years remember a time when we only had a phone, answering machine and a paper calendar. Well, times have changed; but, our commitment to your privacy and health has not.

One of the most exciting is that we have updated our phone system; a long overdue conversion of our land-line to Apple cell phones. Yes! Now we can send/receive texts on our primary phone number 515-331-8948. Call or Text that line anytime you need to connect with us.

Meanwhile our old cell 515-201-5001 is best used when you have arrived for your appointment or are running late. We promise those phones will be protected and your texts treated with the same privacy and confidentiality we keep your medical information. (See our Privacy and Technology Statement (https://www.iowaacupuncture.com/hippa-and-privacy-statement) )

Another change is adding Square to communicate with our clientele. Square is our online scheduling, contact and payment processing service. The program allows us to email and text directly to you. You will receive messages about payment transactions, receipts, new appointments, and changes in your schedule. Some of these come in email, some in text. In order to protect your privacy, Square will require you to accept our texts, and certain email subscriptions. Please do. We will never share your information, nor bother you with unnecessary communications. And, we do not store any patient health/medicine information on Square.

Over the last 12 months, we have been upgrading and expanding our iowaacupuncture.com. You will notice that we have added the option of filling out our clinic patient forms online.

Click here to directly access our online Patient Forms (https://www.iowaacupuncture.com/clinic-patient-forms)

We chose a HIPAA compliment online platform, jotform. All of the information you enter on the forms are used to create a secure PDF sent to our clinic. The information is not codified, nor shared with any online system. Once the PDF is sent to our clinic, we print it for your physical file and save a completed copy on a physical hard-drive located in our clinic. We then delete any medical information online.

Our website will soon have an online “store” component. We are working to make this an unique option to receive herbal medicine and healthy products. Everything available at our clinic (and more) will be available online. We will be integrating our online health forms in order to help you choose the most appropriate herbal products. Wish us well in a timely release.

Many of you are likely wondering our thoughts on Covid and the pandemic. We have tried to stay up-to-date, educated and inquisitive about the whole phenomenon. There is no doubt that Covid-19 is real and that the SARS-2 Coronavirus is responsible. It is unfortunately also true that many hundreds of thousands of people have died prematurely because of the pandemic. It is true that sanitation, mask wearing and proper social distancing has had positive effects.

It is also true that healthy, mindful lifestyles have protected many from the severity of the disease. We have directly witnessed the positive effects of herbal remedies, self-care and rest. The pandemic has reiterated how each of us is ultimately responsible for our health and well-being.

It is our profound hope that our society can learn from this pandemic and become more kind, economically fair, health focused and educated. Humanity has unacceptable flaws; yet, incredible wisdom and potential. We are all in this together. Let us learn, love and seek to be our highest human being.

We are very excited for 2021. We believe the worst is behind us and there is great potential ahead of us.

See you soon!

With Love and Light,

Elizabeth & William Terrell

From our clinic and staff, to you and your family:
Happy New Year!
2020’s biggest lesson was how much our world is interconnected and how much we need each other. Let’s take that lesson and many others into 2021 and make this Metal Ox Year a time of unity, healing and Love!

Here is our favorite yearly astrological forecast from our favorite Asian teacher, Lillian Pearl Bridges!

One of the activities we miss the most during Covid has been shaking our patients hands. It’s an interaction that tells you a lot about a person. This article is a Great synopsis of grip strength research.
According to Asian Medicine, hand strength is related to the yin organs of the arm : Lungs, Heart and Pericardium (emotional protection meridian). These organs are vital in your immune system, hormones, lung and heart function and mental/emotional wellness. Overly strong handshakes are a sign of insecure people or those who have been abused, trying to protect themselves. Weak handshakes are likely passive people or have very fragile constitutions. Combined with a person’s voice, eyes and complexion gives us a quick insight into a persons health and history.

Grip strength could decrease from age-related changes in the nervous system when signals do not travel as fast, or from the early stages of fatal diseases.

“We think massage should be something that everybody can enjoy, and ear massage is extremely accessible given that it can be self-taught and self-applied. When we provide office massage or seated massage at events, our therapists will always end a session with a feel-good head and ear massage of only a few minutes - and that is often all it takes to feel the benefits.”

When it comes to stress, lots of people may immediately think of massage as a great way to unwind and release that tension. However not many consider their ears to be a particular stress reliever when it comes to massage therapy, but your ears are in fact home to some incredibly powerful acupressure...
