Q: Can I use my HSA to purchase over-the-counter medications?

A: Yes, you can. The rules on this have changed over time.

As of 2011, the ACA prohibited the purchase of over-the-counter medications with health savings account (HSA) funds, unless a doctor wrote a prescription for them. But Section 4402 of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act changed that.

The law, which was enacted in March 2020, eliminated the sentence at the end of Section 223(d)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 that had previously prohibited the purchase of non-prescription over-the-counter medications with HSA money.

GOOD NEWS FRIDAY!

Customer service is one of our key success factors. It’s what people expect, and after a series of five-star Google reviews, we have noticed a trend. When you come into our pharmacy, you’re more than a number on a prescription bottle. Thank you to all our customers who have left feedback for us this week. It truly helps our organization deliver an unmatched level of customer service, as displayed in this review:

“Agreeing with everyone else. We just left a larger big box drug store where we experienced long lines inside and out, and pharmacists who were grumpy and put you on hold forever. Here, I've experienced stellar customer service with a smile. I'm so happy I switched!!!”

GOOD NEWS FRIDAY POST! We are fortunate to have GREAT customers. Great customer service is built on relationships. We take pride in knowing both you and your health care needs. A review posted this week by one of our customers made us feel so appreciative, we're posting it here. This is what our customers have come to expect.

“I’ve always appreciated this pharmacy. I have been getting prescriptions filled with them for 18 years for myself my kids and my grandkids. They are very friendly and they come to know you. After Recently dealing with my husband‘s pharmacy at a nearby chain grocery store, I have come to further appreciate the amenities at this store. I like the easy access of the reach out drawer at the drive up. I like the fact that they communicate with you on the status of your prescription. At the store my husband uses, you just don’t hear about it unless you go and ask them about it. Then they’ll say oh we didn’t have that we’re awaiting a shipment. That store is always waiting on a shipment. My pharmacist was super helpful with my heart medication when I was having trouble getting responses from my doctor and running out of medication. I appreciate the people at this pharmacy.”
