It’s really hard to be a therapist today. It’s really hard to be a mom today.
I’m struggling with both.
❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
This wasn’t my post for today. It was going to be about the art you see but I can’t do it.
Should we keep lying to our kids? Should we continue telling them schools are safe?
Do we even understand what safety is?
Yes, we continue to say “you are safe”because that is their emotional security. We cannot give them physical security every second of every day. This is the harsh reality.
❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
But we can give them emotional security. And that is a lot on a day like today.
Say yes to gun reform.
Say yes to affordable and easily accessible mental health care for all.
Say yes to voting for politicians who will put our children first.
We have to start NOW

It’s okay to be different, any color does not make us better or worse than another color. how do we start the conversation? This is a great example of how to have a conversation with your littles!

Don’t be afraid. Start the conservation, not only with your children, but with everyone.

Colors, all colors help to make beautiful art. If there was only one color the world would be boring! 👩🏻‍🎨👩🏽‍🎨👩🏿‍🎨❤️🧡💛💚🖤🤍

They said it! The up and downs are no joke 🌊 Focus on a few minutes at a time, ride the wave, and celebrate all the positives! Love this image. ❤️

Raise your hand if you have or are experiencing the quarantine blues?

Oh yes, it’s real. Are you riding the quarantine blues wave? 🌊
One minute you’re feeling fine, another minute you’re screaming, another minute you’re crying? Feeling moody with no direct cause? And then that wave crashes only to start a new one soon after? It pulls you in and it pushes you out. And then those moments when you feel as if you are drowning in it...
🌊 🌊 🌊
Your kids are no different. We know you are seeing the same changes in them and just know this too shall pass. These will not be permanent mood changes. With your help they will grab hold of the wave and ride it to safety.
🏄‍♀️ 🏄 🏄‍♀️
*Remember to try and be patient.
*Validate their feelings and their frustrations.
*Find a positive to focus on.
*Give them AND yourself breaks.
*Let then ride the wave out—help them stay in the moment and work through things together.
*Create a sense of normalcy and calm even when it seems impossible.

And remember, you’re not alone and you don’t have to go through this alone.
