💛 You’re not failing — it’s just hard.

If…
🍕Your baby gags at every bite
🥦Mealtimes end in tears (for both of you)
🍉 You feel lost in a sea of “just keep trying”

You are not alone.

And you are not doing anything wrong.

Feeding is a complex developmental skill, and some kids just need more help learning it.

That’s where I come in.

📲 Let’s work together to bring peace back to the table — at your pace, in your space 🏠

🦷 CHEWING = GROWING STRONG JAWS (AND SKILLS)!

Did you know that chewing isn’t just for eating—it’s actually a workout for your child’s whole mouth?

👶🏻Many kids are growing up eat soft foods (pouches, purees, chips, crackers, and meltables) which is great for convenience and on the go (trust me as a mom of 3 I get it) BUT it is not ideal for every meal.

These meltable/soft foods don’t give their jaws the challenge they need to grow!

💥 Why chewing matters:

✅ Builds strong jaws & facial bones
✅ Helps the face grow forward (not narrow)
✅ Makes room for teeth (hello, fewer braces!) & space for the tongue 👅
✅ Boosts oral motor control — for better speech & you guessed it, feeding!
✅ Supports safe chewing & swallowing skills
✅ Encourages better breathing and tongue posture

🫐🥕 Try foods that take effort to chew—like carrots, jerky, dried mango, meats, or apple slices.

This is by no means an inclusive list of signs & symptoms of tethered oral tissues (aka lip, buccal, tongue ties).

A ‘true’ tethered oral tissue impacts function such as speech, feeding and swallowing and will present differently from child to child.

Hi everyone! Let me introduce to you, our new baby girl Rhemi!

We are enjoying some much needed bonding time as we adjust to being a family of 5.

Content may be less and response time may be slower for several weeks but I will be back soon!

Rhemi has unknowingly signed up to be my baby model for future content on infant development and feeding so stay tune!

Thank you for your understanding 🤍🩵

To piggy back 🐽 on yesterdays post, so much is happening when babies crawl!

From an OT perspective here are some thing I just have to nerd out on!
- 👀 the eyes learn to come together and cross midline to paint a picture of the environment
- ✋🏼 baby learns to coordinate the left and right hands to work together to make a reciprocal crawling pattern!
- 💪🏼the arms, core, head and neck are all strengthened. And an added bonus the arches of the hands and small little muscles of the hands are getting stronger and develop through crawling!!
🧠 several sensory systems (vision, proprioceptive, and tactile) come together for the first time to create a picture of the environment.
💗and not mentioned above, is that it helps integrate primitive reflexes!!

‼️I’m working on a tummy time guide with primary video content for parents that will help parents set their babies up for success with crawling. Stay tuned ☺️

** 🤓 I will share some very fascinating research soon on the effects of not crawling on some children and specific diagnoses.

Having a hard time weaning baby from the bottle or sippy cup? Here are 4 strategies you can try at home to support transitioning to a straw or open cup instead.

🥤Offer several opportunities to practice straw and open cup drinking so they feel efficient at receiving liquid this way too!
💧offering only water in the bottle/sippy cup will break the strong association that milk or juice comes from it.
🪑Give the bottle or sippy cup at meal times at the table
🍼 Do not give all day access, or in other words let them carry it around and have it at all moment of the day.
* those last two strategies will limit the amount of sucking on these spout types and take the bottle/sippy cup off of a pedestal.

Not sure why it matters if baby uses a bottle or sippy cup for too long? Heres what can be impacted:
🦷 tooth alignment
👅 positioning of the tongue
👄 increased risk of mouth breathing and structural changes of the mouth/face
🪥risk of cavities
🥣 feeding skill development

I know I know everyone promotes tummy time but parents are not often told:
🌈 when to start
🌈 how to modify tummy time positions based on baby’s tolerance or developmental age, or 🌈 what in the world to do when baby just hates it.

You can start tummy time on day 1 of life! Baby laying on their tummy on your chest counts as tummy time! A good place to start is giving baby opportunities for tummy time hourly (during wake times and with parent present and also alert) and then aim for 3-5 minutes or more if they are still enjoying it after 5 minutes!

You can also try adding it into you routine, such as after bath time with high contrast books within view for a ‘bed time story.’

Let me know if you would be interested in a online resource for tummy time with video demonstrations of position modifications and ways to make it more enjoyable for baby

This will be one of the focuses of our future play group session for 0-6 month olds. Stay tuned!
