Have you ever wondered about physical therapy? What exactly does a physical therapist do?

A physical therapist is a state licensed healthcare provider and a movement expert. Most physical therapists have obtained a clinical doctorate degree (DPT) which is approximately two and a a half to three years worth of education and clinical training following a Bachelor's degree. A PT education includes extensive training in anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, orthopedic and musculoskeletal assessment and treatment, injury rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, manual and hands-on therapeutic interventions, neurological and cardiovascular rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, strength and conditioning, and even pharmacology and wound care. Some physical therapists also choose to undergo further education and training to become board specialists in certain areas including orthopedics, geriatrics, pediatrics, etc.

The APTA's definition of physical therapy on the ChoosePT website defines physical therapy as a service to help you avoid surgery and prescription medications, manage pain and chronic conditions, maximize mobility, and improve your physical function and fitness.
