🌞 Congratulations to our most recent Sunshine Award winner, Priscilla Royster, CNA! 🌞
Please join us in celebrating Priscilla, a CNA on our Progressive Care Unit, whose compassion, steady presence, and willingness to help have made a meaningful impact on both patients and teammates.
Priscilla was nominated for her exceptional spirit and work ethic. Teammates and families both shared that she consistently steps in wherever she’s needed, often offering help before anyone asks and keeping a calm, positive demeanor even on the busiest days. A patient also noted that she “went the extra mile,” kindly helping them troubleshoot an issue with their cell phone during their stay.
Priscilla’s heart for service shines in everything she does, and we are grateful for the positivity and dedication she brings to Haywood every day.
Thank you, Priscilla, for being a true rock star for our patients, families, and team! 💛

Our Haywood Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center team is wearing blue today for National Diabetes Awareness Month! 💙
Diabetes affects more than 38 million Americans and can slow the body’s ability to heal. That’s why specialized wound care is so important, especially for foot and leg wounds common in people with diabetes.
If you’re living with diabetes and struggling with a non-healing wound, we’re here to help you get back on the path to healing. Visit myhaywoodregional.com/wound-care to learn more.

Diabetes affects millions of Americans, but with early testing and healthy habits, it’s often preventable.
When the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or respond to it properly, blood sugar rises over time, leading to serious health issues like heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke. Many people don’t even realize they’re at risk, especially those with prediabetes or insulin resistance, which can develop long before a diabetes diagnosis.
Knowing your risk is the first step. Simple blood tests like a fasting glucose, A1C, or fasting insulin can help identify problems early. Maintaining a balanced diet, staying active, and working with your healthcare provider are key to prevention and management.
This Diabetes Awareness Month, take charge of your health. Visit HaywoodMedicalGroup.com or call 800.424.DOCS to schedule a check-up with a primary care provider.
If you’re living with prediabetes or diabetes, ask your provider for a referral to our outpatient registered dietitian for personalized nutrition support.
Haywood Regional Medical Center hosted its second annual Radiant Resilience celebration on Oct. 30, honoring the courage and strength of local breast cancer survivors.

Last week, providers from across western North Carolina gathered at the historic Balsam Mountain Inn for a regional medical staff event hosted by Harris Regional Hospital, Haywood Regional Medical Center, and Swain Community Hospital.
The evening featured an engaging and thought-provoking presentation from Eric P**n, MD, MPH, FACMI, Chief Health Information Officer for Duke Health, who shared cutting-edge insights on how artificial intelligence is shaping the future of medicine. Drawing on lessons from decades of experience with electronic health records, Dr. P**n offered a compelling look at how technology can enhance clinical decision-making and improve patient care.
The event served as a meaningful opportunity for hospital-employed and independent providers to come together, exchange ideas, and celebrate the shared mission of advancing healthcare across western North Carolina.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and at Haywood Regional Medical Center we’re highlighting how early screening can make a real difference.
🔍 Lung cancer often shows no symptoms until it’s advanced. Using a low-dose CT scan (LDCT) can detect it earlier, when treatment is most effective.
📌 Take the first step with our Lung Health Assessment:

Then, talk with your primary care provider about whether screening is right for you. Don’t have a provider? We can help. Call 800.424.DOCS to connect with one today.
Let’s make this month count by protecting lung health across our community.
