Did you know skills for finger play and movement imitation songs in preschool lead to foundational skills for handwriting, typing, playing an instrument, coordinating extremities and body awareness for sports, completing crafts/hobbies and the list goes on and on!

We have used the same beat and tune throughout the school year but have changed the words and movements with each season (summer, fall, winter, spring). The kids have absolutely loved it and by the end of the season are able to imitate each motion! Their confidence has built by keeping it simple and using a familiar tune. By repeating familiar moves it has given each child a chance to master those moves and then try ones that are more difficult with the changing seasons. If anyone has lyric ideas for spring send them my way! ☔️ 🌼

All the sensory bins…because when we feel, we touch, we explore and we play, we learn!

Some sensory bins themes I have done this year:

Hungry caterpillar 🐛
Bobbing for apples 🍎
Emotions 😢😃
Fall 🍁
Halloween 👻
Farm Animals 🐄
Veterans Day 🇺🇸

The shaving cream bin wins as messiest so far and also favorite to the kiddos 😅

use Playdough!!

This is one of my go-to activities. Playdough stamping is a fun and engaging way to learn shape and letter recognition while those little hands work hard 🤚🏽🫟

Did you know a child should be “building” or creating shapes before they actually draw them? Rolling playdough snakes and forming into shapes also is a great reminder for how many sides each shape has! You can also do this with the letters of their name.

Do you have a child or know a child who struggles with light pressure when writing/coloring? Playdough stamping prior to these activities can help alert and teach those finger and hand muscles and encourage appropriate writing pressure.
