Recovery is about more than just stopping substance use.
It is about rebuilding health in a way that lasts.

✨At Serenity Lane, our Health and Wellness Programming includes nutrition-focused support led in collaboration with professionals like Sara Herbert, CADC I, QMHA-R, YTT, who brings experience in behavioral health, movement, and nervous system regulation into recovery care.

These programs help clients reconnect with their bodies, establish sustainable routines, and understand how nutrition supports mood, energy, and emotional regulation. It’s one more way we support whole-person recovery, especially for individuals navigating co-occurring mental health needs. 🧠🥗

Nutrition often gets overlooked in recovery conversations.
But it plays a powerful role in both mental and physical health.

Oregon State University’s Food Hero program introduced a customized nutrition guide that focuses on practical and accessible ways to support energy, mood, and overall well-being through food.

It’s a reminder that recovery and health aren’t just about one system in the body.
They’re about how everything works together. 🍎🧠

✨At Serenity Lane, we see this every day. When nutrition, mental health, and substance use care are all addressed together, people often feel more stable, more engaged, and better equipped to sustain their recovery.

What’s one small nutrition habit that’s helped you or your clients feel better day to day?

✨Choosing a treatment center is an important decision.
Especially when mental health and substance use concerns overlap.
Knowing what questions to ask can make the process feel less overwhelming and more empowering. 💭

This guide walks through key considerations, including levels of care, licensing, staff credentials, family involvement, and how treatment centers approach co-occurring disorders. It’s designed to help individuals, families, and professionals make informed choices with clarity and confidence.

Self-esteem plays a powerful role in recovery.
When someone is dealing with addiction, mental health challenges, or serious medical concerns, it’s common for confidence and self-worth to take a hit.

Whole-person care recognizes that healing is not just physical.
It includes emotional safety, mental health support, and rebuilding trust in oneself over time.

Addressing these areas together can reduce shame, strengthen motivation, and help people stay engaged in treatment.

✨At Serenity Lane, integrated care means mental health and substance use are treated side by side, not separately. This approach supports resilience, confidence, and long-term recovery.
If you or someone you care about needs support, our team is available 24/7.

💭Many people who are entering treatment aren’t dealing with just one challenge.
Substance use and mental health concerns often overlap, feed into one another, and make recovery feel more complicated than it needs to be. 🧠

✨That’s why Serenity Lane now operates under an Integrated Co-Occurring Disorder (ICOD) license with the Oregon Health Authority. This license allows us to provide a higher level of coordinated mental health and addiction care, all under one treatment plan.

Integrated care matters because it treats the whole person, not just the isolated symptoms. When mental health needs like depression, anxiety, trauma, or self-harm behaviors are addressed alongside substance use, people are more likely to stay engaged in treatment and build long-term stability.

During National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, it’s important to remember that concerns around food, control, and body image often overlap with substance use and mental health struggles.

Some signs don’t look dramatic at first. They can show up quietly:

🍕Skipping meals or avoiding shared food situations
🫢Feeling overwhelmed by loss of control
👗 Using substances to manage anxiety around eating or appearance

These patterns aren’t about willpower. They’re signals that something deeper may need support.

Early awareness opens the door to early help. And that can make all the difference. 🌱

📞If you’re unsure what you’re seeing, reaching out for guidance is a meaningful first step.

One of the most meaningful acts of kindness during recovery is learning how to support it.

Serenity Lane’s Family Program is designed to help loved ones better understand substance use disorder, rebuild trust, and learn how to support recovery without enabling or burnout.

The program focuses on:

🎓 Education about addiction and recovery
🗣️ Healthier communication and boundaries
👪 Support for families navigating their own healing

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation.
Families deserve support too.

During Random Acts of Kindness Week, it’s worth remembering that supportive kindness looks different in recovery.

A few ways kindness can truly help:

📲Checking in without needing an update or outcome
🫶 Allowing silence instead of filling it with advice
👣 Letting someone move at their own pace, even when it’s uncomfortable

These small choices help create safety. And safety is essential for healing.

Kindness isn’t about saying the perfect thing.
It’s about showing up in ways that don’t add pressure.
