A new pilot program in Oregon is taking an innovative approach to recovery inside correctional facilities. 👮

The program trains incarcerated individuals to support peers navigating substance use recovery. By building peer-led support networks, the goal is to reduce the risk of relapse and improve outcomes when people return to their communities.

Why does this matter? 🤔

Research shows the weeks immediately after release from incarceration carry one of the highest risks for relapse and overdose. Programs that introduce recovery education and peer support early can make a meaningful difference.

Recovery is rarely built alone.
Whether support comes from peers, counselors, family, or treatment programs, connection plays a powerful role in long-term change.

✨At Serenity Lane, that same principle shapes treatment. Clients build support through therapy groups, alumni networks, and ongoing recovery communities across Oregon.

🌐Tomorrow, April 7th, marks World Health Day and National Alcohol Screening Day.
Both reminders that paying attention to our health includes looking honestly at our relationship with alcohol.

Alcohol use can slowly shift from occasional drinking to something that can start affecting your sleep, stress levels, relationships, and even overall well-being. Because the changes often happen gradually, many people don’t recognize the pattern until it’s too late.

Taking a moment to reflect on drinking habits can be an important step toward protecting long-term health.

Common signs that alcohol may be becoming a concern include:

⚠️ Drinking more often or in larger amounts than intended
😴 Sleep problems or fatigue after drinking
📉 Difficulty cutting back even when you want to
🧩 Alcohol beginning to affect work or relationships

If these signs feel familiar, it may be time to learn more about your treatment options and support.

✨Serenity Lane provides evidence-based alcohol treatment programs designed to help individuals safely step away from alcohol and build a healthier path forward.

Stress doesn’t always arrive all at once…
Sometimes it builds slowly.

💠Deadlines.
💠Family pressures.
💠Sleepless nights.

The quiet feeling that everything is piling up.

But small resets during the day can help to interrupt that cycle before it grows to an overwhelming level.

A few ideas to try this week:

Take a five-minute pause away from screens 📱
Step outside for a short walk or fresh air 🚶
Turn off notifications for a little while 📵
Write down what feels heavy instead of carrying it mentally 📝

None of these can just solve everything overnight.
But they can help the nervous system settle and create space for you to be able to think more clearly.

And when stress begins to feel bigger than daily coping tools can manage – finding support matters.

If you or someone you care about is dealing with stress, substance use, or mental health challenges, Serenity Lane is here to help. ✨

SCAM ALERT – PLEASE SHARE
Serenity Lane has been made aware of a predatory scam targeting families of people recently incarcerated in county jails.

Scammers are searching online for family members, calling them, and falsely claiming that their loved one has been “selected” for treatment at Serenity Lane. They then pressure families to send $1,000 so the person can “leave jail and enter treatment immediately.”

This is NOT legitimate.

If someone reaches out to you after receiving one of these calls:
• Let them know it’s a scam and should be ignored
• If they want to report it, they can file a complaint with the Oregon Department of Justice Consumer Protection team: https://www.doj.state.or.us/consumer-protection/consumer-complaints/

Please help spread the word to protect others from this predatory scheme.

Many people seeking treatment are navigating both mental health challenges and substance use at the same time. 🧠
Addressing one without the other often leaves gaps in care.

✨Serenity Lane provides integrated mental health treatment under an Integrated Co-Occurring Disorder (ICOD) license, allowing mental health and addiction care to work together, not separately.

This approach supports individuals who may be managing anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health concerns alongside substance use – creating a more stable foundation for your recovery.

🧩Autism and mental health often intersect in ways that aren’t always visible. During World Autism Awareness Week, it’s important to recognize that stress, anxiety, and substance use can present differently for neurodivergent individuals.

Sensory overload, difficulty with transitions, and social fatigue can intensify emotional distress. When those needs aren’t recognized, people may be coping longer before receiving the appropriate treatment and support.

✨At Serenity Lane, individualized care helps ensure mental health and substance use treatment respects neurodiversity and focuses on the whole person.

Supporting someone in recovery doesn’t require having the perfect words.
Often, the most helpful support is steady, respectful, and rooted in listening. 👂

Simple actions – like showing up when promised, responding without judgment, and acknowledging emotions – can help people feel safer asking for help when they need it. These moments build trust, which is essential for recovery and mental health stability.

Support isn’t about control or correction.
It’s about creating space where people feel respected, understood, and encouraged to keep going.

✨If support needs are growing or feel overwhelming, Serenity Lane is here.

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation.
And neither does healing.

Connection plays a powerful role in how people cope with stress, regulate emotions, and stay engaged in treatment. Feeling supported can lower anxiety, reduce shame, and help people stay grounded during difficult moments. Even just small points of connection – a conversation, a shared space, and a consistent routine – can make a meaningful difference.

✨At Serenity Lane, connection is built into care through group support, family involvement, and a strong recovery community that doesn’t disappear after treatment ends.

Nutrition often gets overlooked in recovery conversations.
But it plays a powerful role in both mental and physical health.

Oregon State University’s Food Hero program introduced a customized nutrition guide that focuses on practical and accessible ways to support energy, mood, and overall well-being through food.

It’s a reminder that recovery and health aren’t just about one system in the body.
They’re about how everything works together. 🍎🧠

✨At Serenity Lane, we see this every day. When nutrition, mental health, and substance use care are all addressed together, people often feel more stable, more engaged, and better equipped to sustain their recovery.

What’s one small nutrition habit that’s helped you or your clients feel better day to day?

✨Choosing a treatment center is an important decision.
Especially when mental health and substance use concerns overlap.
Knowing what questions to ask can make the process feel less overwhelming and more empowering. 💭

This guide walks through key considerations, including levels of care, licensing, staff credentials, family involvement, and how treatment centers approach co-occurring disorders. It’s designed to help individuals, families, and professionals make informed choices with clarity and confidence.
