Last week, Dr. Schwartz, Kimmy, and Naomi of Pine Creek Animal Hospital came to CPL for Vet Call to administer vaccines, check-up on our kennel dogs, and make sure everyone is in good health. We are so grateful for their continued support of our mission, and their dedication to our four-legged friends!

Every March, The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation dedicates the month to National MS Education and Awareness Month, aiming to empower, educate, and unite those living with multiple sclerosis.

Service dogs can assist those with multiple sclerosis by performing tasks that mitigate both physical and cognitive symptoms of the disability, such as providing balance and mobility support, retrieving dropped items, opening doors, and more!

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month! Each year, the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) and its partners collaborate to lead Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM) in order to highlight how people with and without disabilities come together to form strong communities.

Here at Canine Partners for Life, we are proud to have a community of individuals with and without disabilities that support, care for, and celebrate each other each and every day – including volunteers, clients, applicants, board members, donors, and staff members!

March 1st is recognized each year at International Wheelchair Day. CPL is proud to partner highly trained service dogs with individuals who use wheelchairs, helping increase independence and confidence in everyday life. According to Assistance Dogs International, more than 80 million people worldwide use a wheelchair regularly. For many, an assistance dog is more than a companion — they’re an essential teammate, helping with daily tasks like opening doors, pressing elevator buttons, retrieving dropped items, and even loading the washing machine. Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and partnership behind every working team.

Last week, some of our staff visited our friends at West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. for a puppy party with the Eagles Autism Foundation. To our surprise, we even ran into Philadelphia royalty - Eagles' mascot, Swoop! This was a great opportunity for our puppies to build their confidence and practice staying calm around so much excitement. We’re so grateful for our longstanding partnership with West and for their dedicated employees who continue to support CPL’s mission!

For our final What’s My Name Wednesday of the month, we are featuring Cindy and Buggy, of Lovey’s second litter.

Cindy was named by M.R., who chose the name to honor his wife. He stated, “Cindy is my wonderful wife. She does so many things to help people.” What a wonderful name to honor someone you love!

Buggy was named by the State Correctional Institution, Muncy. SCI-Muncy hosts a fundraiser, the Paws Walk, each year, which raises funds for the Prison Puppy Raising Program at Canine Partners for Life. Because of their fundraising efforts, they were invited to name a puppy and chose Buggy. In a full-circle moment, Buggy is now being raised at SCI-Muncy with the inmate handlers who helped choose her name!
