Talk Less About “Being Mad”

and more about what your child is really feeling inside.

When we look beneath the surface, we build connection, not just correction. 💛

If your child struggles with anxiety, it doesn’t mean something is wrong. It means their brain is doing exactly what it’s designed to do: protect them.

Our goal isn’t to eliminate anxiety, but to help kids understand it. When they can recognize what they’re feeling, name it, and learn how to respond, they stop feeling overwhelmed and start feeling empowered.

When kids understand their anxiety, they no longer feel trapped by it. They feel in charge of it.

With your support and the right tools they can grow braver, calmer, and more confident every time.

At Insight Collective, we help families uncover their child’s learning profile so they can access the right accommodations, build confidence, and thrive in school.

When report cards come home, the first words out of our mouths matter more than the grades themselves.

They teach kids how to handle feedback, with curiosity or with fear.

Try swapping criticism for curiosity:
❌ “What happened here?”
✅ “Can you help me understand what made this class harder?”

That one small shift helps kids stay calm enough to think and not shut down. When children feel safe, their brains move out of defense mode and into problem-solving mode. That’s where real growth happens. Not just academically, but emotionally, too.

At Insight Collective, we help kids build the reflection and self-regulation skills that turn hard moments into learning opportunities.

I was at a wonderfully informative event hosted by Amber Brinkman last night, when the mom next to me began recommending a blog post on retention she had recently read. It took me a few minutes to realize
.it was my blog! (What an embarrassingly cool “first”! â˜ș)

I originally wrote this blog for a few of my families who were facing “the R word” this time last year. They both told me stories of all of the (inaccurate/bad/opinion-based/half-decent) advice they were given, which left them confused and more uncertain.

.but I wanted these parents to feel like they had some facts to bite down on before making this this tough decision, and a solid understanding of their options if they decided that retention was not the right path for their child.

So for anyone who is facing discussing the “R” word this month with their educational team
.

The end of the school year is a bustling time with standardized tests and final reports. If you've come across the term "retention," you might have some concerns. Retention means the school is considering having a student repeat their current grade. It's a big decision, so let's dive into what this....
