Halloween fun doesn’t have to come with back pain! Here’s how to keep your spine happy:

𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀: Lift from the bottom, squat, and carve at a comfy height.

𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗲𝘀: Avoid heavy or awkward outfits, protect your back and balance.
𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀: Let little ones ride when they get tired—save your shoulders!

Recently, Dr. Blaty gave a presentation to the team at Orthopedic Physical Therapy Institute (OPTI) on the benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery.

Using advanced technology, including robotics, the Synaptive exoscope, and expandable instrumentation, Dr. Blaty discussed how these innovations allow for:
-Less disruption to soft tissues
-Reduced blood loss
-Faster recovery times
-Improved long-term outcomes

We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with OPTI and share how advancements in spine surgery are helping patients across the Inland Northwest return to active, healthy lives.

If you spend your day at a desk, you’ve probably asked yourself why your back hurts when you sit. Sitting for long periods of time puts extra stress on your back, neck, arms, and legs and it adds significant pressure to your spinal discs and muscles. Poor posture, especially slouching, can overstretch spinal ligaments, strain discs, and lead to ongoing back or neck pain.

The good news? With the right posture and ergonomic setup, you can protect your spine and reduce pain.

-Sit close to your desk so your elbows are at a 90-degree angle.
-Keep your thighs level and feet supported (a footrest can help).
-Make sure your chair supports your lower back—avoid slouching.
-Position your computer screen at eye level to prevent neck strain.
-Use armrests to take pressure off your shoulders.
-Take movement breaks. Stand, stretch, and walk every 30 minutes.

Some people also benefit from alternatives like kneeling chairs or exercise balls, but always check with your doctor before switching if you have back issues.

No matter what chair you use, remember: staying in one position too long isn’t healthy for your spine. Regular movement keeps your joints, muscles, and ligaments flexible which helps you feel more comfortable and productive throughout the day.

At Inland Northwest Spine, the only outcome that matters to us is your satisfaction. That doesn’t just mean award-winning surgical care—it means finding the best possible path for your health.

As we get older, the risk for osteoporosis increases—a disease that makes bones thin and weak. A simple screening procedure called a bone density test can:
✔️ Show if you already have osteoporosis
✔️ Predict if you’re likely to develop it
✔️ Monitor if your current treatment is working

Bone density testing is one of the many tools we use to guide your care. Dr. Blaty spend as much time as needed with every patient, walking through all options and creating a clear, collaborative plan for treatment.

Your journey isn’t just about treatment, it’s about clarity, confidence, and care every step of the way, give us a call at (208)667-1376.

The spinal column is your body’s main support system—holding you upright, protecting your spinal cord, and allowing you to move with strength and flexibility.

It’s made up of 33 bones, called vertebrae, divided into five regions:
🔹 Cervical (neck)
🔹 Thoracic (upper back)
🔹 Lumbar (lower back)
🔹 Sacral (pelvic area)
🔹 Coccygeal (tailbone)

At Inland Northwest Spine, we’re dedicated to helping you keep this incredible structure strong and healthy. Watch and learn more here:

Ever seen this crooked little tree tied to a straight stake? It’s called the Tree of Andry, and it’s a powerful symbol in orthopedics.

Named after Nicholas Andry—the founder of orthopedics—it represents how support and guidance can help something (or someone) grow straight and strong.

Andry coined the term orthopaedics in 1741, combining the Greek words for “straight” and “child.” His mission? Preventing and correcting spinal and bone deformities in kids.
