Safe Start was honored to host this month’s Post Falls Chamber of Commerce luncheon!

We’re grateful for the opportunity to share an update on our impact—working every day to prevent childhood injuries and deaths through education, resources, and community partnerships.

Most importantly, we want to thank our incredible donors and supporters. Your generosity ensures our mission continues to move forward, helping families throughout our community keep their children safe and healthy.

October is also Safe Sleep Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of safe infant sleep environments and practices that save lives. Together, we’re creating a safer start for every child. 💛🌻

Hard to believe this was once considered normal!

Back in the 1950s and early 1960s—long before modern safety standards—automakers proudly showed babies lounging on the rear dash like in this 1960 Chevrolet Corvair ad. At that time, child car seats weren’t designed for protection at all; they simply helped kids see out the window or stay in one spot.

Seat belts didn’t even become required in U.S. vehicles until the mid-1960s, and few people actually used them. It wasn’t until the 1970s and 1980s that real progress began—when crash-tested, protective car seats finally became standard.

Looking back, it’s wild to see how much has changed. What was once seen as a cute and convenient setup is now recognized as incredibly dangerous. This old photo is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come in keeping children safe on the road.

Another beautiful sunshine day in Fernwood,ID 💛 After helping more than 30 kids ride safer at our car seat check, we visited our friends Shayne and Michelle (and their sweet critters 🐷🐮🐓🐶). We ended the day at the cemetery, remembering and missing sweet baby Mason on his almost 23 birthday 💔🌻

Our second video, “Surviving Grief”, features Liz and Aileen sharing their personal grief stories and testimonies. They speak from their own experiences of losing a child to help other bereaved parents find courage, hope, and tools to navigate the unthinkable tragedy of child loss.
By sharing their journeys, they offer guidance and support to parents who are trying to survive their own grief and begin to find ways to move forward while honoring their child.
