Some of my homeopathy clients are driven to learn enough about homeopathy and herbs to be able to take care of their family members on a daily basis. These clients use their consultation sessions to ask questions about what to have on hand and what to do in cases of stomach aches, toothaches, stomach flu, food poisoning, earaches, rashes, colds, flus, and growing pains. I am thrilled to empower these clients, oftentimes parents, to gain the know-how that family elders traditionally had in all societies. In my home growing up, my mother, my grandmothers, and all my aunts knew what herbs and foods to take when having a cold or flu, what to do in a case of overeating, what to have with you when travelling, and what strategies to use when sick with a flu.
You can book one session at a time or purchase three at a time for a discount.

For clients who have found homeopathy and then found a practitioner they like and trust, one possible pitfall awaits. The client begins to feel better and starts scheduling their followups further and further apart to save money. Every time they come back, they have trouble telling what precisely the previous remedy dose did and for how long the improvements lasted. The person's life's events entered into play, too, and now with their health worse, the homeopath begins from scratch. Rather than taking the client to the next level, they need to start at the previous, or oftentimes lower, level of vitality. The client may lose faith in homeopathy without giving it a proper chance. My advice here is to find a homeopath with whom you see eye to eye on the pacing of your journey and someone you trust to schedule appointments to your optimal benefit. You should not work with a homeopath who you believe is in it for money more than for your benefit (although I have never met one like that yet).

Once you get started with homeopathy, you will get a little bit of a feel when to take a new dose of your constitutional remedy, when to take a series of three doses in three days, and when it is appropriate to take a few doses in one day. But at first, it can all be confusing. One term that I like in regards to acute dosing is that the body "burns through the remedy" quickly when it is struggling through someting intense such as pain from a fall, the flu, a toothache, a baby's teething pain, or bronchitis. If you work with a classical homeopath, the practitioner will most likely ask you to take only one remedy and one potency at time (some make an exception for two remedies alternating, some will give a few remedies at a time for acute needs only) and to take it according to their schedule. But you can offer feedback at your next session, which the homeopath will be grateful for.

A few remedies that I suggest to keep on hand for emergencies and acute needs:

Arnica 30C, 200C, and 1 M (concusion, a serious fall, after giving birth, after a surgery)

Nux vomica 30C and 200C (food poisoning)

Phosphorus 30C and 200C (some types of flu)

Arsenicum album 30C and 200C (some types of stomach bug, some types of food poisoning, some types of cold or flu)

Hypericum 30C and maybe 200C (nerve injury)

Rhus tox 30C (certain skin issues, some back pain or joint pain types)

Belladonna 200C (some respiratory infections)

Then your trusted homeopath will advise you what to take and how often, but you won't have to wait several days for the remedy to come in the mail.

I was in my early thirties when I understood that modern medicine as typically practiced in the developed countries I am familiar with does not heal. It was a major insight for me, a shock. I grew up in Poland having very little interaction with modern (mainstream) medicine, and even there, the three major health problems I had as a child were neatly labelled during many office visits and tests but then left alone deemed incurable (my then diagnosed infertility was later cured in twelve months by a Chinese acupuncturist in New York, leading me to have two healthy pregnancies and births). On the other hand, growing up I had a concept of what healing was, my definition of it, from somewhere. Healing was improving health conditions that the body was unable or slow to improve with just rest and good food by the use of plant-derived medicines. My mother used a few such herbs and they always cured: strong peppermint tea for gas pain or stomach fullness, chamomile tea for exam anxiety, lemon balm tea or tinctures for frayed nerves or difficulty falling asleep, caraway and I think cumin seed for nausea or indigestion. So when age started catching up with me or my loved ones encountered more serious or more bothersome health issues, I started reading every herbal and other natural healing book possible to solve the problems that modern medicine only managed, but didn't heal (I understood by that time that modern medicine was very effective in certain areas, such as bacterial infections). Many years later, I encountered classical homeopathy and Traditional Chinese Medicine and found these two systems the most groundbreaking among all the ones I have tried or studied. Here is where healing is actually possible if the practitioner knows how to find the key. These are modalities that offer a shift to a higher platform of health: lower frequency of episodes, disappearance of episodes, lower intensity of episodes, fewer types of health issues. This is healing. It may be gradual, but we are moving forward.

One of the top homeopathy textbooks for children's health concerns. It is not a handy reference for when we scramble to make the best remedy pick for bronchitis or teething pain, but it is for the time when the crisis was put to bed and now the family and the practitioner are ready to build back better. It is powerfully rewarding for a practitioner like me to work on elevating a client's health and well-being layer by layer. First I decide which layer should be tackled next. It is not like a client will clearly fit one remedy profile, or an unwell person will suffer from only one main complaint. There is usually mood to contend with, sometimes sleep concerns, digestive concerns, often allergies. There are rules laid out by experienced clinicians such as Dr. Herscu (whose other excellent textbook is Stramonium) that help us pick which remedy to go for next. My practice took a major leap forward in terms of clients' progress when I freed myself from the school of thought that a client should only ever need one remedy through their life - nothing is farther from the truth. A client will ideally be given one constitutional remedy at a time, and the remedy will achieve the biggest results if it is the most optimal choice for the client's current state. This is where the experience of practitioner comes into play. An inexperienced practitioner will choose a remedy too quickly or incorrectly and get a very short lived or shallow result, or no result. Many very good practitioners will take days or a week to make up their mind which remedy will be the best choice to peel the very top layer of the onion next.

It is one hard job to educate people about homeopathy if they are new to this branch of medicine. A hundred years ago, esteemed medical doctors practiced homeopathy and often some herbalism (herbal tinctures were used as unpotentized plant remedies because this is what was available at times), and even today we have a thriving branch of homeopathic medicine in India, with large to small, very busy clinics, huge conferences, and teaching universities, all out in the open from what I have gathered - not in hiding like in the United States. Here we hide from censorship by search engines by using vague language on our web sites, while the mainstream medicine pays for ads to appear in top findings in search engines. Yet homeopathy touches the lives of people even in the United States, usually when families tried it after trying everything else for their unwell family member. It is often a longer journey toward healing in difficult cases, and indeed healing can end up being partial, but clients are thrilled with progress such as more physical energy, more physical mobility, more mental and emotional clarity, slowing of aging, smoothing of hormonal irregularities, positive outlook, and happier, better adjusted children. Homeopathy is not hocus pocus or placebo, it is in the simplest terms herbalism: taking plant or mineral-dervied extracts sold as tiny white round "tablets," which were recommended for that individual by a learned homeopathy practitioner.
