Our bodies don’t only mimic nature, they are nature. We can’t separate what’s happening in the land around us, from what is happening within us.
Right now in the north east (at least in Vermont) we are experiencing a thaw from a cold, snowy winter. Snow is melting from the mountains and rivers are swelling. Ice and debris gets carried with the waters, and can create dams, flooding, diversion of flow.
Our bodies are also going through a thaw cycle! We’ve been storing energy for the winter, that is waking up. Our circulatory systems are becoming more active. And with this, we need to make sure that the flow of energy, blood and other body fluids is unhindered.
Abdominal massage is an amazing way to aid in this process. The abdomen, our core, filters through all of the blood in our body (most of the blood in your body filters through your liver).
But how can abdominal massage help? The pathways for the body’s circulation to flow freely need to be clear. This is where looking to the rivers comes in.
During the Core Connections Abdominal Massage Intensive, I teach a technique called “mountains and valleys”. The concept teaches you to locate areas where the flow is hindered, causing stagnation, and areas of deficiency (where those fluids are not reaching). And once we find these areas, we can work to clear the debris, clear the ice jams, and allow the rivers of the body to flow and fill these valleys.
Next class is and begins in mid May.
If this is something you’d like to experience for yourself, we have 2 massage therapists at Core Connections (myself and Hannah ) who practice abdominal massage. And a growing number of massage therapists who are weaving it into their practice!
