I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had clients tell me that they finally feel like themselves again. They say it at the end of a session, surprised, as if they're seeing an old friend after a long separation.
The reason working with the abdomen can lead to the transformative benefits of bringing clients home to themselves again can only be speculated, but here's how I see it:
Abdominal massage wakes up circulation in our physical center, the core of our being. It can relieve the feeling of "being stuck in your head", as energy returns to the center. This enhanced blood and energy flow can have profound effects on everything from digestion to sleep quality to easeful menstrual cycles to feeling clarity in who you are.
Now lets break it down with a few specific organs from a TCM perspective:
Spleen/Pancreas- when out of balance, one may feel like their vision is blurred, head is heavy, on top of uncomfortable digestion. When in balance, you have clarity, can see your path forward, have an easer time making decisions.
Liver/Gallbladder: Liver is in charge of the free flow of qi and blood throughout the body. This filter organ must filter nearly all of the blood from the abdominal organs before it returns to the heart. Through massage, we can help this process, this free flow. This can be felt in all aspects of life.
When abdominal massage is done without the proper awareness or technique, clients often feel even more tension than they did upon arriving at their appointment because their abdomen had to work so hard to fight against what felt (inadvertently) like an invasion. When abdominal massage is done from an educated and body aware perspective… clients can tap into a deeper remembering of who they are and feel more grounded and relaxed than they have in years.✨
