2026 ESSAY CONTEST: Mercer County is excited to announce the winners of the 2026 Mercer County RTL Essay Contest. Students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade who live in, or worship in, Mercer County were eligible to participate. Contestants were asked to write on one of the following topics: ‘Why I Am Pro-Life’, ‘How I Defend My Pro-Life Position’, or ‘How I Can Assist the Pro-Life Movement’. The cash prizes for each group are as follows: 2nd place: 200 dollars and 1st place: 300 dollars. All other participants will receive a 20 dollar McDonald’s gift card. We give a big thank you to our judges for volunteering their time: Matt Gilmore, Kate Thobe, and John Fullenkamp.

For the 9th and 10th grade age group we had a tie for second place: Chloe Frysinger and Abby Sanford. The winning essay for the 9th and 10th age group came from Tori Beyke. The 11th and 12th grade age group has Jackson Bange for the second placing essay and the first place essay came from Alexis Buschur… CONGRATULATIONS!

Thank you to all contestants for making time to reflect on and strength their pro-life convictions. It takes many hands, hearts, and minds to create a culture that supports life!

REMINDER: Our next MCRTL meeting is tomorrow, Thursday, January be 22 @7:00pm. It will be held at Preferred Insurance Center, 809 W. Main St., Suite 2 (basement), across from the Mercer Health Hospital in Coldwater. Please park in the back of the building.

The Mercer County Right to Life Sweetheart Dance is coming up!

It will be held at Romers Catering in St. Henry on Saturday, February 14th, 2026. Doors open at 5:00PM with the meal at 6:00PM ($15 meal optional with RSVP online at https://facebook.com/events/s/sweet-heart-dance-right-to-lif/1909979476394857/ or call 419.678.8482).

A $5 raffle ticket donation is your cost for the dance. You must have a dance ticket in order to purchase a meal ticket.
Music is provided by Walt Schmitmeyer Band from 7:00–10:00 pm. Many raffle & door prizes will be given away!

The Friend of Life Award will be given as well. This is always a very exciting spotlight in the evening!

The first baby born at Mercer Health Hospital in 2026 is Vera Bruggeman, daughter of Ross and Krista Bruggeman, of St. Henry. She will be loved greatly by her big sister, Sylvia. 🌹

Vera was born on January 1, 2026 at 10:39 am. She weighed in at 8 lbs. 15 oz and measured 21".

She received a blanket and a book (the book may be enjoyed more by Sylvia at this time 😀). Her dad and mom received $50 in Chamber Bucks.

Mercer County Right to Life says, "Congratulations" to the Bruggeman Family. We praise God for this new life, a precious gift from Him! 🩷

Come and hear what is happening in the lives of two young men from our area who will be speaking. Their topic will be on their desire to take a bigger step forward in the pro-life movement by working with Created Equal, a pro-life ministry based out of Columbus.

The cash prizes for each group are as follows: 2nd place will receive 200 dollars and 1st place will receive 300 dollars! All participants will receive a $20 McDonald’s gift card.
Each educational or persuasive essay is to be 600 – 800 words and to have one of the following topics: ‘Why I Am Pro-Life’, ‘How I Defend My Pro-Life Position’, or ‘How I Can Assist the Pro-Life Movement’.
Essays will be scored equally on four criteria: grammar, facts, creativity, and inspiration. All essays expected to reflect the pro-life convictions held by Mercer County Right to Life.
Please include in subject line of the e-mail submission the contestant’s name. In the message portion please list the contestant’s address, age group essay is to be entered, and school. All high school students who live in or worship in Mercer County are eligible.
