🍁 Thursday Tip for National Health Education Week! 🍁
Rake Smart, Not Sore!

The leaves are falling… and so is your motivation once you see that yard. 😅

Raking is great exercise and a fresh-air reset, but it can sneak up on your back, shoulders, and knees if you’re not careful!

Before you grab that rake, here’s how to keep your body feeling strong and pain-free:

✅ Warm up first – Stretch your arms, back, and legs before you start.
✅ Use good form – Bend at the knees, not the waist.
✅ Switch sides – Don’t let one shoulder do all the work.
✅ Take breaks – Hydrate and pace yourself.
✅ Lighten your load – Smaller piles = happier muscles.

This Thursday, October 23rd, Performance Physical Therapy will not have access to water starting at 8:00 AM (duration TBD).

💧 Please plan ahead — bring your own water and use the restroom before your appointment.
🚻 If needed, Peak’s bathrooms will be available during this time.

Want to make progress without burning out or getting injured? The 10% rule is your guide! 🙌
Only increase your mileage, weight, or workout intensity by no more than 10% each week.

Here’s how to use it:
1️⃣ Increase Gradually – Small, steady gains = big results.
2️⃣ Be Smart – Focus on one thing at a time (distance, load, or sets).
3️⃣ Listen to Your Body – Feeling sore or tired? Hold steady or take a recovery week.

🌀 Mobility Monday! 🌀

No matter your age or fitness level, mobility work is the secret to moving better, feeling stronger, and staying pain-free. 🙌

Taking just a few minutes to stretch and open up your body can:
✅ Improve posture
✅ Boost performance in workouts and daily life
✅ Reduce stiffness and soreness

Here are 3 of our favorite mobility moves to kick off your week 👇

1. World’s Greatest Stretch – This full-body move opens up your hips, hamstrings, and thoracic spine while improving balance.
👉 Step one foot forward into a lunge, place both hands inside your front foot, rotate your chest toward that knee, and reach your arm to the sky.

2. Couch Stretch – The ultimate hip flexor opener! Use a wall or couch to stretch the front of your hips and quads—especially great if you sit a lot or do squats and lunges regularly.
👉 Place one knee on the floor with your foot up against the wall or couch, other leg in front at 90°, then gently press your hips forward.

3. Pigeon Stretch – A classic yoga pose that targets your glutes and hips, helping release deep tension and improve hip mobility.
👉 Bring one leg forward and bend it in front of you, extend the other leg straight behind, then fold your torso over your front leg to deepen the stretch.

Mobility isn’t just for athletes—it’s for everyone. Take care of your joints now, and your body will thank you later! 🙏
