❄️ 5 Tips to Stay Fall-Free This Winter

With all the snowy, icy weather we’ve already had — and more on the way — now is the perfect time to stay proactive and protect yourself from slips and falls.

1. Wear the Right Footwear

Choose shoes or boots with good traction and non-slip soles. Avoid smooth bottoms that slide on ice.

2. Take Smaller, Slower Steps

On icy or snowy surfaces, walk like a “penguin.”
Short steps + slightly bent knees = more stability and less slipping.

3. Use the “Three-Point” Rule

Always keep 2 feet + 1 hand or 2 hands + 1 foot in contact with a surface when entering/exiting cars or navigating steps.

4. Clear & Salt Pathways Early

Keep walkways, steps, and driveways shoveled, salted, or sanded before they ice over. Do it early and often.

5. Strengthen Your Balance Muscles

Daily exercises like heel-to-toe walks, single-leg stands, and core work improve your stability and reaction time if you do slip.
