Easter has always been a holiday about gathering, and your family probably has traditions that go back generations. The same ham recipe, the same hiding spots for eggs, the same pew at the same church your grandmother attended. These rituals hold a family together, and they carry the fingerprints of everyone who came before you.

🌺We hope your Easter is full of good food and familiar faces this year. If someone is missing from yours, we're thinking of you.

Children feel much calmer when they know what to expect at a funeral, and walking them through the day beforehand helps ease their worries. Tell them about the music, the flowers, who might speak, and how long things will take. Explain whether there will be an open casket, a closed casket, or an urn, and what that means for them.

Let them know some people might cry, others might laugh while sharing stories, and all of that is completely normal. (These are good reminders for adults, too.) Most importantly, remind them that whatever they feel during the service is exactly what they're supposed to feel. We're here to help you prepare them for this important day.

What would you want people to hear at your funeral or celebration of life?

Maybe you want your favorite hymn sung, or maybe you'd rather have everyone listen to that song you played on repeat for years. Some people choose scripture passages that shaped them, others prefer poetry or even a passage from a book they loved. Your service works best when it sounds like you.

Your family will remember hearing those specific songs and words long after the funeral ends. Telling them what feels right gives them confidence they're honoring you the way you'd want. And if you don't have strong preferences, letting them know they can choose freely is a gift too.

"What clothing will our loved one wear during cremation?" Your loved one wears whatever you choose.

Families often select favorite or meaningful clothing that reflects personality. Those clothes go with them for cremation. When a family doesn't have clothing in mind, we dress your loved one in a simple garment. The choice belongs to you, and we’ll guide you through it.

Maybe you’ve been unsure whether a funeral is needed, especially when life feels upside down. The truth is a large formal service isn't always necessary. Even a brief, simple gathering helps people come together, making those early days a little easier. We’ll walk through the options with you, work within your budget, and help you choose what makes sense for your family.

Choosing a keepsake takes time because you're trying to figure out what will actually bring you comfort, which is hard to know when you're in the middle of grieving. Some families choose something right away, while others need weeks or months before they find what feels right. We've seen people come back to add matching pieces for everyone or completely change their mind about what they want. However long it takes, we love showing you options and helping you discover what speaks to you.

You know your kids love you, and you also know they see the world differently from each other. One pictures cremation, another assumes burial, someone wants a big gathering, someone else thinks you'd prefer something smaller. Preplanning your funeral now and sharing your wishes keeps those future conversations gentler and easier on everyone. We'll help you put your plan in writing so your family can focus on supporting each other when the time comes instead of trying to figure out what you would have wanted.

Call us at 515-674-3155 and we'll help you document your wishes.

Children want to help when someone they love has died, and giving them small jobs at the funeral makes them feel useful during such a hard day, and helps the process their grief. Suggest they hand out programs, help with flowers, or just greet people as they come in, always giving them the choice and control to opt in or out. These little tasks give kids something to do with their hands and hearts when everything feels too big and sad. We love helping families figure out which role feels right for each child.
