Scientists use light to destroy cancer cells with 99% success
In a medical breakthrough that could revolutionize cancer treatment, scientists have found a way to kill cancer cells using nothing but light, with an incredible 99% success rate in lab experiments. No drugs. No chemotherapy. Just targeted beams of near-infrared light.
Developed at Rice University, the technique uses special dye molecules that attach to cancer cells. When exposed to near-infrared light, these molecules begin to vibrate so violently that they tear apart the cell membranes, a process the researchers have dubbed โmolecular jackhammering.โ
The results were astonishing. In tests on mice, half of the treated subjects saw their tumors completely disappear, achieving full remission. Unlike traditional treatments, this method is non-invasive and avoids the toxic side effects of chemotherapy or radiation, making it potentially far gentler on patients while still highly effective.
The technology is now advancing toward human trials, with hopes that it could one day allow doctors to โswitch onโ light-based treatment for targeted cancer destruction, leaving healthy cells untouched.
