The Survive & Thrive SPICE (SPrings Independent Culinary Establishments) Program celebrates locally owned restaurants that shape the culture and identity of El Paso County. This new initiative is built for restaurants — a spin-off of our proven Survive & Thrive program that has already helped more than 300 local businesses grow. SPICE empowers independent eateries with financial relief, workshops, mentorship, and community connections to stay strong year-round. Applications are due Dec. 31. Oro is now open at the historic Mining Exchange Hotel. The menu, developed by James Beard Award nominee, Chef Aaron Barnett, features bold flavors inspired by the Tuscan countryside and seasonal ingredients from the Pikes Peak region. Signature dishes include creamy burrata with roasted Pueblo peppers, Bolognese made with locally sourced bison, and what has become an early fan favorite — truffle risotto. Wendy's was considering "Surge Pricing" for a hot second 😂 but they received so much backlash they've changed their minds.
