Caplan Chiropractic

Caplan Chiropractic Holistic Health Care serving the Colorado Springs and surrounding areas. Specializing in Chiropract But most of all, she listens to her patients!

Dr. Michelle Caplan is passionate about helping people stay healthy and fit through all stages of life. She works with chronic pain patients and those struggling with health issues who have tried everything and come to her looking for an alternative. Dr. Caplan offers an integrative approach to restoring and optimizing health through functional medicine. Dr. Caplan raised two daughters. They were

active young athletes now grown young women with children of their own. She understands the challenges of living in the fast pace reality of our local community. It was her own personal struggles that led her to Chiropractic and Functional Medicine. She suffered a severe knee injury while skiing which required reconstructive surgery. “I stopped at my Chiropractor’s office for an adjustment after every physical therapy session because it was the only thing that prevented me from limping. I realized then how much I could help others overcome and recover from injuries through Chiropractic. It was in 2010, when she became ill after traveling that she became passionate about learning how to help others stuck within the confines of traditional medicine. “I had severe GI symptoms with horrible skin rashes and swelling of my face and eyes on a daily basis. All the standard testing came back negative and I was told there was 'nothing wrong.' But I knew there was something terribly wrong. I realized that I was not alone with these experiences. Practicing Functional Medicine allows me to teach others how to feel the messages your body sends you and how to support the systems that need it until your body can breakthrough the barriers that limit you. “
Doctor Caplan discovers which systems in your body aren’t functioning optimally by looking at lab work. Her experiences give her a wealth of knowledge and the benefit of many years combined practice experience from which to choose her care plan. Her keen diagnostic skills and integrative capacity have formulated the best of what can be offered today in strategies for reaching and maintaining personal goals in physical and emotional fitness, and overall well being.

Did you know chiropractic care can support a healthier pregnancy and birth?

Many of my pregnant patients are referred by their midwife or OB-GYN because prenatal chiropractic care is gentle, safe, and supportive for both mom and baby.

When the spine, pelvis, and nervous system are functioning well, the body can adapt more easily to the changes of pregnancy.

Some benefits of prenatal chiropractic care may include:

✨ Better pelvic balance to support an easier pregnancy and smoother birth
✨ Reduced tension on the uterus and surrounding ligaments for greater comfort
✨ More room for baby to move into an optimal position for birth
✨ Improved nervous system function supporting baby’s development
✨ Reduced likelihood of difficult or prolonged labor
✨ Lower rates of certain birth interventions

One of the greatest joys of my practice is caring for women during pregnancy and helping them prepare for birth.

But care shouldn’t stop there.

Birth is a huge physical event for both mom and baby. Postnatal chiropractic care can help restore balance to the body and nervous system so you can heal well, regain your energy, and fully enjoy those precious early days with your new little one. 💛

🌿 Wellness Wednesday 🌿

Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is the most common autoimmune condition affecting women. Unfortunately, it often goes misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed, leaving many women searching for answers for years.

If you’ve ever felt like something wasn’t right but were told to simply lose weight, exercise more, or take an antidepressant, you’re not alone. Many women with Hashimoto’s experience symptoms long before they receive a proper diagnosis.

Traditional approaches often focus on managing symptoms. Functional medicine takes a different approach by looking deeper to identify potential triggers such as diet, lifestyle, genetics, and environmental factors.

When we identify and address those underlying triggers, we can begin supporting the body in a more comprehensive way.

If you’re struggling with unexplained fatigue, weight changes, brain fog, or other thyroid-related symptoms, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Why Your Posture Changes When You’re Stressed (And What That Does to Your Body)

When you’re under pressure, your shoulders often round forward. Your head drifts slightly ahead of your body. Breathing becomes shallower. Muscles around the neck and upper back tighten without you even realizing it.

The problem? When stress becomes ongoing, that protective posture can stick.

Over time, forward head position and rounded shoulders can strain the muscles that support your spine. Joints don’t move as smoothly. You may notice tension headaches, upper back stiffness, or that constant “tight” feeling between your shoulder blades. Your spine and nervous system are closely connected. When your body stays in a guarded posture, it can reinforce that stressed, on-alert feeling.

Improving spinal mobility and awareness can help your body shift out of that braced position-and care with us can help!

Pregnancy care is about more than just back pain.

It’s about supporting the body through one of the most incredible transitions of life.

I feel so honored to care for moms during pregnancy and continue that care after baby arrives.

This message from a patient meant the world to me:

✨ “Dr. Michelle took such good care of me during my pregnancy and even did an unplanned home visit when I started having strong labor contractions and my back was hurting. She truly cares about every patient.”

Supporting healthy moms and healthy babies will always be one of my favorite parts of practice.

Birth is amazing… but it’s also physically demanding for a baby.

Even in the smoothest deliveries, a newborn’s head, neck, and spine experience significant pressure as they move through the birth canal.

That’s why many parents choose to have their babies checked by a chiropractor soon after birth.

Pediatric chiropractic adjustments are extremely gentle. The pressure used is similar to checking a tomato for ripeness. 🍅

Because babies haven’t accumulated years of stress and compensation patterns in their bodies, they often respond very quickly to care.

Our office is designed to be very kid-friendly, and Dr. Michelle always takes time to make little ones feel safe and comfortable. Sometimes that means adjusting a stuffed animal first so they can see exactly what’s going to happen.

Supporting healthy babies from the very beginning is one of our greatest joys. 💛

Hi friends! 👋 It’s been a while since I shared a bit about me and my approach to health.

I live in beautiful Colorado with my two daughters and five sweet grandchildren, enjoying the mountains, paddle boarding, golfing, and pickleball. I also have a big place in my heart for the ocean and try to spend time in Maui whenever I can. 🌊

My journey into functional medicine began in 2010 after a health crisis that doctors couldn’t explain. Through this approach, I finally uncovered the root cause of my symptoms—and it completely changed my life.

Now, I’m passionate about helping patients do the same. Health comes from within, and knowledge is the key to taking control of your wellness. I love empowering my patients with the education and tools to overcome health challenges and thrive.

If you’re curious about a holistic, root-cause approach, let’s chat! Check out my services or schedule an appointment through the link on my website.

Why Stretching Alone Isn’t Always Enough

Stretching is one of the most common “go-to” fixes for stiffness. And it can help—especially when muscles are genuinely short or overworked. But if you’re stretching regularly and still feel tight in the same places, you’re not doing anything wrong. You may just be stretching the symptom, not the source.

Sometimes what feels like muscle tightness is actually joint restriction. When a joint isn’t moving properly—often in the spine—nearby muscles may tighten up to protect the area. Your body uses tension as a stabilizer. That’s why you might stretch your hamstrings every day but still feel pulling in your low back, or roll your shoulders constantly but never quite shake the neck tension.

Chiropractic care focuses on restoring motion where it’s limited, so your muscles don’t have to “brace” as much. When joints move better, muscles often relax naturally, and stretching starts to feel more effective. If tightness keeps coming back, let’s look deeper than flexibility alone. Book a visit and we’ll help you find the real reason your body is holding on.

What Your Spine Has to Do With Energy Levels

Feeling drained isn’t always about sleep or motivation. When your body is stiff, tense, or moving poorly, everyday tasks can take more effort than they should. That “working harder” feeling adds up—especially if you sit for long stretches, carry stress in your shoulders, or notice frequent tightness in your back or hips.

Your spine plays a key role in how efficiently your body moves. When spinal joints aren’t moving well, other areas often compensate. Muscles stay switched “on” longer, posture becomes harder to maintain, and you may burn energy just trying to stay comfortable. Over time, that can leave you feeling worn out—even on days that don’t seem physically demanding.

Regular chiropractic care helps improve mobility and reduce tension patterns that keep your body on high alert. Many patients also notice they move more freely, feel less “heavy,” and recover better between busy days.
