Yesterday, we had a truly special event in our community. Our assisted living and memory care caregivers shined as they shared their culture with our residents in a meaningful and heartfelt way.
From traditional dances and a thoughtful Q&A sharing insight into the rich, communal culture of the Philippines, every moment brought connection and understanding. The experience was beautifully tied together with a dinner inspired by their heritage, giving our residents the opportunity to get to know our incredible staff on a deeper level.

This was teamwork that truly went above and beyond—collaborating with our chef to curate a meaningful, authentic menu, dedicating time to rehearse traditional dances, and thoughtfully creating a program that allowed us to learn and connect with their culture.
From start to finish, it was an honor to witness our amazing caregivers share such an important part of their lives with us. We are so grateful for their passion, dedication, and the vibrant culture they bring to our community every day.

Throughout the month of February, we’re moving with purpose — raising funds and awareness for our local non-profit partner, Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado.

Last night, we had the joy of hosting our Philanthropic Dinner, where residents gathered around the table with members of our team for an evening rooted in connection and community. In true Leisure Care fashion — leaving our mark and striking a balance — it was a night to remember.

Guests enjoyed a beautifully prepared three-course meal, all set to the elegant ambiance of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.

We're grateful for a community that shows up, gives back, and makes an impact together.

We are thrilled to celebrate our incredible Chef Anthony Neal on successfully completing his CEC (Certified Executive Chef) certification! This achievement reflects months of dedication and hard work—from a rigorous written exam to an intense practical test where he crafted a four-course menu for Chef Evaluators and showcased his skills with market basket ingredients.

From deboning chicken and filleting fish, to working with live lobsters, mastering classic cuts and sauces, and countless hours of practice on his days off, Chef Neal poured his heart into every step of this journey.

Anthony has always had a deep passion for cooking and he dedicated this milestone to his late father, Orlandus Neal Sr., and his dear friend Chef Nate Dirnberger—both of whom he knows were cheering him on from above.

We couldn’t be more proud to have a chef who brings not only incredible talent to Mackenzie Place, but also heart, perseverance, and a true commitment to excellence.

We were delighted to discover a wonderful surprise in the paper this morning!
A heartfelt thank you to The Gazette for the beautiful article featuring our very own Wanda Stockwell. We had the joy of celebrating Wanda’s 103rd birthday on Friday, and this touching tribute was the perfect way to continue the celebration.

We are incredibly lucky to know Wanda—she truly is one of a kind.
Another big thank you to Abode Hospice for going above and beyond to make all of Wanda’s birthday wishes come true.

Talk about a full-circle moment! Mary recently had the chance to reconnect with former Mackenzie Place employee Nate—now a NASA flight controller. She always loved chatting with him about his dreams of working at NASA, and now he's living them. During a recent visit to town, Nate made a special stop to see his dear friend.

He brought Mary a meaningful gift: a mission patch from NASA’s Crew-10, designed by the four astronauts aboard a Crew Dragon that docked with the International Space Station in March. One of the crew members, Nichole Ayers, is from Colorado Springs and is a proud graduate of the Air Force Academy.

The crew is currently wrapping up their nearly five-month mission, during which they conducted hundreds of experiments aimed at improving life on Earth.

Mary, now 100 years young, still dreams of seeing Nate reach even greater heights—perhaps even space itself someday!
