Over-the-counter whitening strips are tempting with their promise of a brighter smile from your couch. While they can provide some improvement, it’s crucial to use them wisely to avoid sensitivity or uneven results.

DO check with us first. We can tell you if your teeth and gums are healthy enough for whitening and if your type of staining (surface vs. deep) will likely respond.
DON'T use them on teeth with untreated cavities or significant gum recession, as the gel can cause severe pain.
DO follow the timing instructions exactly—leaving them on longer will NOT whiten faster and can burn your gums.
DON'T expect perfection. Strips can’t conform perfectly to every tooth shape, leading to uneven whitening, especially around the gumline.
DO be prepared for temporary sensitivity.
DON'T forget that professional whitening is far more effective, even, and safe. We use protective barriers for your gums and higher-grade peroxide that we can control precisely for a uniform, brilliant result without the strip-related risks.

The sound of the drill is perhaps the most universal dental fear. What if we told you that for very early, small cavities, we might not need to use it? Thanks to advances in preventive dentistry, we can now treat initial decay with a minimally invasive procedure called Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
SDF is a liquid that we brush onto the cavity. It safely stops the decay in its tracks by killing the bacteria and strengthening the tooth structure. It does have one side effect—it permanently stains the decayed area a dark color, making it look like a small, harmless freckle on your tooth. For this reason, it's often used on baby teeth or on permanent teeth in areas that aren't visible. For slightly larger cavities in low-stress areas, we might use ART (Atraumatic Restorative Treatment), which involves removing decay with hand instruments only and placing a special glass ionomer filling. These approaches allow us to preserve more of your healthy tooth structure, reduce anxiety, and provide comfortable, effective care. It’s all part of our commitment to the most conservative, patient-friendly treatment possible.
