Meet Sonja Hilmer
Sonja is a 22yr old creator in Colorado Springs, originally from New York state. She is an illustration major at UC Denver and hopes to progress into concept design. Playing with new and varied media is one of her favorite parts of art, and she reflects that in her work through unique formats and one-of-a-kind pieces. Some of the media you'll see in her display are traditional acrylic painting on turkey feathers and giant scallop shells, acrylic pour painting, fumage techniques, and small-scale trinket carving from natural materials found in the Colorado wilderness.
Aside from illustration work, she is also a competitive figure skater and cosplay craftsman. She competes at the Senior level in singles ladies figure skating, where she is a member of USFSA's International Selection Pool and an up-and-coming choreographer. As a cosplayer, she goes by the alias "Optical Phenomenon", and teaches herself techniques in sewing, foamsmithing, casting, and more to bring her favorite characters to life, which she has won multiple awards for as well.
