As cold & flu season descends upon us, yes, even COVID, I find many people are very fearful about "catching" something. The truth is, we are all built with an immune system that is AMAZING at fighting those foreign invaders, but is poorly understood by most. Here is a great 10 minute video that gives an overview of how your immune system is constantly at work to protect you. Even when you do pick something new up, it is helping you fight future attackers. Your best plan of attack, so to speak, is to support your immune system with a healthy lifestyle that involves good food, good rest, well-managed stress, healthy exercise and healthy, supportive social connections. Thank you to all who have served our country. Some willingly, some not. But you served. You missed birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, the warm embraces of those you hold dear, the comfort of the familiar, knowing your time was truly your own. Thank you for showing up when you were too tired, for doing the hard things you never thought you could. Some of you came back forever wounded, all of you forever changed in some way, some never came back. Thank you to the families who supported you and sacrificed in their own ways, who had to be strong in your absences. We are better for your service!

Part of this beautiful life we live is the knowledge that it doesn't last here forever. Today I say goodbye to a dear friend and great man who lived large and well. He leaves behind a legacy of lives made better because he was in them. He loved, worked, played and worshipped God with fullness. It is a reminder to me that we are called to do everything with love, joy and purpose, with all our strength, while we have breath. To honor the One who gave us life by living it well and with balance.
Dave, you will be dearly missed! Thanks for the example and reminder!
