Miriam's Place Launches Annual "Seats & Feet" Holiday Campaign

Colorado Springs, CO -Miriam's Place is kicking off its annual Seats & Feet Holiday
Campaign, running from November through January.

This year's collection includes hats, scarves, tennis shoes, socks (especially white cotton tube socks}, and sweatpants. All donations will support local partners serving individuals and families in need throughout the winter season.

"If you're cleaning out your closet and find items that could be shared but aren't sure if they're a fit for this campaign, please give us a call," organizers said. "We'll gladly let you know what's most needed right now."

The Seats & Feet campaign focuses on small essentials that make a big difference–helping people stay warm, dry, and comfortable during the coldest months of the year.

Meet Tamara Ryan Brody:

Tamara Ryan Brody is an expressive arts facilitator and collage and mixed media artist residing in Colorado Springs. She teaches online and local classes and coaches people using the creative process as well as tarot and astrology. Tamara upcycles materials to create one-of-a-kind pieces. This month’s arts show, entitled “Voices of the Ancestors”, will feature collage, paintings, mixed media, and assemblage art.

Meet Lila Polur Wrubel!

Lila Polur Wrubel was always interested in photography. As a young girl, she would pour over Life coffee table books, studying the iconic photos for hours-instinctively understanding that "a picture is worth a thousand words". And she was always drawn to photography exhibits at museums and galleries.

When her children were little, she started doing portrait photography as presents for teachers and friends, casting herself in an accidental profession (which she loved). Lila's passion grew as she expanded her interests into architecture and nature.

With all her photography, Lila strives to communicate the beauty within, no matter the subject or size. She hopes to compel the viewer to stop and ponder, to really look at something that may have been merely passed by without consideration. There is beauty everywhere-we just need to look. And look closely!

This is going to be a whole lot of fun!!

Art Kites and Original Prints by Leslie Kyte

I have always made art.

In college I studied, among many things, painting and art history.
I retired from my work as a hospice nurse in 2012. Since then, I have focused on learning Japanese calligraphy and some simple printmaking techniques.

Most recently, I have begun to make my prints into kites.

Why kites? Like prayer flags, they carry messages on the wind.Their materials - the strong, translucent Japanese paper, and the delicate but supple bamboo spars - speak of light. They express freedom, resilience and aspiration. I hope you will find them uplifting too.

Preview: Sunday September 7th, 2 - 4 pm
Opening reception: Tuesday September 9th, 4 - 7 pm
Open house: Saturdays in September: 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th, 11 - 1pm

I will be on site on Saturdays for ‘show and tell’ with some of the tools and materials I use in print- and kite-making.
