As a trauma survivor, I used to fear horses because of their size, unpredictable "flight" responses (like bolting), and their ability to mirror human emotions, triggering PTSD symptoms like hypervigilance or flashbacks, making them feel unsafe; however, what I learned is that horses sense and reflect human emotions (anxiety, tension), intensifying feelings for someone with PTSD. A survivor's internal chaos can make the horse anxious, creating a feedback loop of fear.

The ability for these beautiful animals to sense emotions, respond to body language, and mirror the feelings of those around them, make horses powerful healing agents for building trust and self-regulation. The calming presence of horses helps regulate the body's stress response, reducing hyperarousal common in trauma.
