In honor of Black History Month...
Protecting Black Youth Mental Health is not optional. It’s urgent.
Over the past decade, su***de rates among Black youth have risen significantly, with children under 13 experiencing disproportionately high rates. That should stop all of us in our tracks.
Children do not “just grow out of it.”
Anxiety doesn’t disappear with age.
Depression is not defiance.
Silence is not resilience.
Early intervention saves lives.
Many families hesitate to seek support because of stigma, fear of labeling, or mistrust of systems. Those concerns are real. But untreated mental health challenges do not resolve on their own — they often grow louder.
Emotional literacy is prevention.
Open conversations are protection.
Professional support is strategy.
If you’re a parent noticing changes in mood, withdrawal, irritability, sleep issues, or academic decline — pay attention. Those signals matter.
At Crestpoint Psych Services, I provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed care for individuals and families across the state of Colorado virtually.
Support is not a weakness in your child.
It is an investment in their future.
