Dyslexia is a learning disorder that inhibits the processing of words into meaningful information. It is a neurological learning disorder. Dyslexia impacts about 20% of the population and represents about 80% of all learning disorders. The achievement GAP between dyslexic students and normal students is identifiable at about first grade and grows through the life span.

Dyslexia screening is only the first step. Other issues including ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and other learning disorders can be present or comorbid with dyslexia. Please note that this screening is not a concrete diagnosis of dyslexia, but rather a filter to determine a child is a candidate for more rigorous screening, which typically includes intelligence testing, academic achievement testing, and others.

I am excited about mental health and would love to answer difficult questions about mental health issues. I am NOT seeking new clients. My goal is to provide an alternative to the horrible information I've seen floating around the web about mental health (and this includes licensed providers).

Just completed the requirements and was awarded the Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) credential. This certification course provided some amazing insight into the newest science and practice of trauma treatment. Thanks to Linda Curran for putting together a course that highlighted the work of the worlds foremost experts in trauma!

Over the years, I've found that a massive amount of providers do not have any training in personality disorders outside a few credits in grad-school abnormal psychology. In many cases, therapists use symptom based treatment that would be appropriate for symptom based psychopathology (think PTSD, Depression, etc.) which just is not very effective vs. personality disorders.

Although I am typically fully booked, I am never to busy to return an email or help you better understand how you should move forward in treatment.

For those curious about the myth; a major research study measured the physiological experience of emotions on clinical (borderline) and non-clinical populations. Utilizing EKG, GSR, etc. They found no difference between the populations.

Silent Springs will continue to see clients face-to-face during this unprecedented time (COVID-19). Clients have rights and responsibilities during this time. First, you have a right to travel to therapy during this time. You also have the responsibility of protecting yourself and others.

Please do NOT attend sessions (contact and arrange for alternate treatment) if you have:
1) Shortness of breath
2) Fever
3) Cough

Emergency symptoms (contact emergency services and describe symptoms)
1) Difficulty breathing
2) Persistent Pain/Pressure in chest
3) Confusion
4) Lips/face tints bluish hue

I will do my part to help increase the probability of your safety during visits which include:
1) Increased physical space (you may ask to increase)
2) no transmission of materials (worksheets/manuals)
3) Disinfecting common items between clients

Please feel free to reach out at (719)439-8013.
