Ruby Estelle Thompson
November 9, 1931 — December 15, 2025
Colquitt

Ruby Estelle Thompson of Colquitt died peacefully on December 15, 2025, at her residence. A graveside service will be held for family and friends at Colquitt City Cemetery on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at Colquitt Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Estelle Thompson was born Ruby Estelle Johnson in 1931, daughter of Wesley Johnson (Mvskoke) and Anna Lee Johnson, and grew up in Oklahoma in the humblest of circumstances. For the rest of her life, she revered her mother’s example of working hard and caring for her family, no matter how difficult the circumstances. She fell in love with Ralph Thompson in high school, and they married just after she graduated, valedictorian of her class. Ralph worked at several different cattle ranches in Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia before moving to Jo-Su-Li Farms in Colquitt in 1956. They would remain part of the Colquitt community for the rest of their lives.

Estelle, despite being incredibly shy and with only a high school education, eventually became the ranch secretary for Jo-Su-Li, a major agricultural operation, teaching herself to manage financial affairs and the intricacies of farming and the cattle business side by side with Ralph. She was a remarkably intelligent woman who was driven to assist the many families on the farm with financial, legal, and medical troubles whenever they arose. All the while, she managed her home and raised six rowdy and diverse children with loving attention. When Jo-Su-Li was sold 25 years later, Estelle and Ralph went into the cattle business themselves as T-Bar Ranch, and for Superior Livestock, buying and selling cattle all over the Southeast for the next 27 years.

Her family would tell you these facts about her: she was an excellent cook, seamstress, and storyteller. She had endless wisdom and incredible inner strength. She faced tragedy with resilience and grace, especially the losses of her son Freddy and her grandson Dusty. She never forgot where and who she came from. For her family and community, she was a quiet role model of spiritual compassion and an advocate for social justice. She believed that one of the highest callings for a human being is to care for others in need. Instances of her personal efforts to help the marginalized in her community are simply too innumerable to recount. Her simple acts of kindness were the rarest kind and an inspiration to many others. She had a profound faith that was expressed not in words but in the life she lived.

Estelle was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Thompson, her son Freddy Thompson, her grandson Dustin Bannister, her parents, Anna Lee Johnson and Wesley Johnson, her sister Helen Duncan Hare and her brothers Charles Johnson and Raymond Johnson.

Estelle is survived by her children Robert (Debi) Thompson of Carney, Oklahoma; Michael Thompson (spouse Tina Deschenie) of Farmington, New Mexico; Sally (Penn) Wells of Portland, Oregon; Will Thompson of Douglas, Georgia; Debbie (Bruce) Henry of Colquitt, Georgia; 8 grandchildren Steve Thompson (spouse Jana Steelman), Daniel (Natalie) Ingalsbe, Katie (Mark) Higgins, Brooke Wells (spouse Ryan Bledsoe), Will (Jordan) Henry, Desiree Deschenie (spouse Mark Williams), Tatiana Deschenie and Troy Hunt; 10 great-grandchildren Will Reid Thompson, Sage Hunt, Sky Hunt, Jack Higgins, Lila Higgins, Bryce Bledsoe, Maddox Bledsoe, Nora Ingalsbe, Ruby Ingalsbe, and J.D. Henry; and by her brothers John Johnson and Nelson Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library or to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Phillip Stephen Williamson
March 29, 1955 — November 4, 2025

Phillip “Steve” Steven Williamson, 70, of Colquitt, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025.

Born in Donalsonville, Georgia, on March 29, 1955, Steve lived a life full of adventure, love, and laughter. A true traveler at heart, he journeyed wherever life took him, but his greatest adventure began in central Florida, where he met the love of his life, Josephine “Josie” Williamson. The two shared 39 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and devotion.

For the past 25 years, Steve and Josie made their home in Colquitt, Georgia. Steve spent his life living it to the fullest and dedicated himself to taking care of his wife—never missing a chance to spoil her.

Steve found joy in the simple pleasures: being outdoors, taking a good creek run, and searching for arrowheads on sunny afternoons. He was known as a jack of all trades who could work on and fix just about anything. His resourcefulness and skill were matched only by his kindness and sense of humor. He had an adventurous spirit and a generous heart that left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine Williamson; four children, Amy (Ronald) Dupree of Naples, FL; Vanessa Sheffield of Colquitt; Stephanie Williamson of Colquitt; and William (Leagh) Williamson of Colquitt. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Jarret (Emily) Dupree, Trace Dupree, Carisma Dupree, Reese Worsley, Allysa Bailey, Jack Bailey, Liam Williamson, Raylan Sheffield, Rylee Williamson, Willow Bailey, Olivia Williamson, and Oliver Williamson, all of whom brought him endless joy and pride. Other survivors include his brother, Keith Williamson, and his sister, Merry Lynn Blackshear.

Steve joins in heaven his parents and his sisters, Bobby and Phyllis, who welcomed him with love.

Steve will be remembered for his adventurous soul, his deep love for his family, and his ability to find beauty in the world around him. His legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

In accordance with Steve’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Instead, the family will host a celebration of life — one last party — to honor him. Details will be announced at a later date.

Laverne Shaw
September 22, 1926 — November 2, 2025

Mrs. Laverne Kimbrel Shaw of Colquitt, GA died on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Pruitt Health in Albany, GA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, at 11:00 AM, at Bellview Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. David Young and Rev. Royce Horne officiating. Interment will follow at Bellview Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.

Laverne was born in Miller County on September 22, 1926 to John and Lucy Haire Kimbrel. She lived almost all her life on Avenue Road.

At the age of 95, she moved to Colquitt Alternative Care where she had many friends. She was always known to be a strong and independent woman. She lived alone after her husband, Ralph, died. She continued to drive and teach Sunday School at Bellview Free Will Baptist Church well into her 90s.

She was a very active member at Bellview. She never missed a Sunday morning, evening, or Wednesday night service. You could always find her on the third row on the left-hand side of the church. The second row had a plaque with her name because she and her husband had paid for it when the church was renovated many years ago. When asked why she sat on the third row instead of the one with her name, she said that she was saving it for visitors. Laverne retired from the State of Georgia. She worked most of her working years at the Miller and Seminole County health departments.

She is survived by her three daughters, Cathi (Dickie) Dickens of Lake Charles, LA, Diane Rouse of Albany, GA, Carol (John) Fountain of Conyers, GA; two granddaughters, Kadi Steele, of Clayton, GA and Danielle Downs of Phoenix, AZ; one grandson, David (Keeley) Fountain of Atlanta, GA; three great-granddaughters, Rachel and Rebecca Moon of Clayton, GA, and Clark Fountain of Atlanta, GA; and one great-grandson, Shaw Downs, of Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Shaw; her parents, John and Lucy Kimbrel; one sister, Elvie English; and two grandchildren, Erik Barr and Tiffany Blankenship.
