Certified Birth Doula, Suzanne Kelly, has been a family and child advocate for 30 years. After graduating from Florida International University, with a degree in Family and child development she worked many years in the childcare business while raising four children with her husband Tim. Her interests developed into obstetrics and she has worked for over 12 years as a medical assistant at an OB/GYN office. Being a birth doula has become her passion! Every mother and every birth is a joy to her.

Breastfeeding doesn’t often follow a schedule. Watch your baby, not the clock. I love the blueberries visual. It looks more realistic for breastfeeding. Some feeds are bigger, some smaller. Sometimes there are longer spaces in between feeds. If you count the sessions they still add up to the desired goal number of feeds for 24 hours.

A birth experience is something that has lasting impacts. How special for me to receive a letter from a child I helped welcome to the world! Her mom has so lovingly shared the story of her birth and the support she received from me! What a great gift.

A gloomy rainy day was made bright by a wonderful postpartum visit with a special family. I have been at the birth of all three of their children. Being someone’s doula is a privilege, but being asked back again and again is an honor! To top off my day I was gifted a beautiful painting by big sister Amelia. It now hangs proudly in my kitchen. Welcome to the world Elijah! You are truly loved.

For the parents out there… Remember it’s great to have goals and plans, but don’t ever be afraid to pivot away from those plans sometimes. Infants and children often have a way of making you rethink things!
