💜 Why Are Knees So Affected in Lipoedema?
Many people living with lipoedema notice that their knees become one of the most problematic areas and there are important reasons for this.
🦵 Fat deposition around the knee joint.
Lipoedema causes an abnormal build-up of painful, fibrotic fat around the inner knee, outer knee, and above/below the joint. This extra tissue can. Restrict normal knee movement. Increase pressure on the joint. Create a “cuffing” or bulging appearance around the knees
💧 Lymphatic congestion around the knees
The knee is a major crossroads for lymphatic vessels in the legs. In lipoedema. Lymph flow can become sluggish. Fluid may pool around the knee. Swelling often worsens by the end of the day. This congestion contributes to heaviness, aching, and inflammation.
🦴 Increased joint stress & altered biomechanics
Extra weight and tissue around the knees can. Change walking patterns. Increase strain on cartilage, ligaments, and meniscus. Accelerate joint irritation or early wear. This is why knee pain can occur even without arthritis.
🔥 Inflammation & pain sensitivity
Lipoedema tissue is often. Inflamed, Tender to touch, Sensitive to pressure. Even light contact or kneeling can feel uncomfortable or painful.
🦵 Fascia & connective tissue involvement
Thickened fascia around the knee can. Reduce tissue glide, Restrict lymphatic and blood flow, Add to stiffness and pulling sensations
