It’s hard to understand how sometimes you can try so hard at something and still fail. You can be prepared for anything and still make mistakes. You can think that you have all of the answers and still get questions wrong. Life in addiction and recovery is no different. I spent so many times swearing that I wouldn’t use again only to find myself at my dealer's house the next hour. I tried so hard to stay clean and would still fail. It would start with the smallest compromise or the tiniest bit of a resentment and it would always lead down the same path.
So what finally did it? What makes my recovery possible when so many others keep trying and failing? The truth is, I’m nothing special. I didn’t crack some code that leads to recovery. I didn’t solve a riddle that grants me happiness. I came to the conclusion that no matter how many times I failed, I needed to keep trying. I’ve drilled it into my head that even though I have made mistakes, I am not a mistake. And I wake up every day reminding myself that I am an addict, but just for today, I will not get high. ❤️

By September 2019, the number of overdoses surpassed the total number for 2018. That makes 2019 deadlier than 2018, which was deadlier than 2017, etc.

The report, which should be released and finalized next month, shows the number of deadly drug overdoses in Nashville through September of this year surpassed the total number of deaths in 2018.
