🎒Back to School! 📚
As students head back to the classroom, it's the perfect time to check in on their posture, movement, and daily habits to keep them feeling their best.
Here are some Physical Therapist-Approved Tips to kick off the school year strong.
✅Backpack Safety:
- Wear both straps
- Keep the pack above the waist
- Limit weight to 10-15% of your child's body weight
- Choose padded straps and use chest and waist belts if available
🪑Desk/Posture Tips:
- Knees and hips should be at 90°
- Feet flat on the floor
- Back supported
- Reading material/screens at eye level
- Encourage standing/stretching every 30-45 mins - Movement is medicine!
🛌Sleep and Hydration Matters:
- Consistent bedtime routine
- 8-10 hours of sleep for school-aged kids
- Avoid screens 30 minutes before bed
- Aim for half your child's weight(lb) in ounces of water per day. For example, an 80lb child should try to drink 40 oz. of water
- Water intake should increase with hot weather and activity
🤸Stay Active:
- Aim for 60 minutes of movement a day
- Sports, walking, biking, and recess all count!
