This month, our Member Spotlight is on Mark Stewart, LMFT-A! Mark is the owner of Cascade Therapy, LLC and specializes in working with couples and individuals with relationship concerns. After a previous career in corporate real estate, Mark understands the pressure of big decision moments and feels passionate about helping couples navigate stressful relationship challenges.

Mark brings a genuine kindness, warmth, and non-judgmental understanding to his work with clients and to his collaboration with colleagues at the Collective!

A few things about Mark:

*What do you enjoy most about your job?*
"Assisting people who are facing struggles, uncertainties and feelings of crisis; it is gratifying to help client’s find their own “I got this” confidence."

*What refuels you outside of work?*
"I enjoy being outdoors and completing physically demanding projects. Sometimes I even like to just relax and ponder life in our world – past, present and future. Mostly, I cherish my time in my own relationship with my partner."

*What would you tell your younger self about your career now?*
"My younger self would have never imagined this career path. The only through line might be a willingness to push myself and imagine future possibilities where I felt some uncertainty in the moment – basically, learning to lean into resiliency. Life is full of twists, turns, and setbacks (these are an unavoidable part of life, and sometimes open new, previously unimaginable vistas); my young self was confident my path would be visible throughout. Haha!"

*What advice would you give to a new therapist?*
"Network with your peers and your larger social communities. Find ways to engage and participate in activities with others as being a helper in sessions can feel isolating; and on occasion can be weighty and draining."

*What has being a member at CCC been like for you?*
"I enjoy the camaraderie, the sense of shared mission and the sense of relaxed professionalism which one can feel everywhere."

Cathy brings deep empathy and a love for human connection into every session with her clients. She says her favorite part of the work is “the vulnerability and attunement” that comes with holding space for others. Outside of the therapy room, Cathy says she finds energy in reflection, creativity, and time spent with her family.

What would you tell your younger self about your career now?

-“You will not believe this”! I never had any idea this is where I would be. There are multiple paths I could have taken but I truly believe it has been the mission of my life to be flexible and optimistic.

What do you wish your clients knew about you that you don’t normally get to share?

-I wish my clients knew how much I think of them in my daily life. Their stories impact my perspective of the world all the time. I wish they knew that in their search for meaning they are also helping me find my own meaning.

What advice would you give to a new therapist?

-Be open to guidance and learning new things. The mental health field is constantly growing and new things are discovered every day that can positively impact our work with our clients. We must always strive to be curious and always explore the unknown!

What has being a member at CCC been like for you?

-CCC has been a dream for me. Again, I never thought that I would be running my own practice. I absolutely love being my own boss and have the freedom to grow my practice according to my values and goals. I feel supported by my colleagues on a regular basis and could not ask for more when it comes to positive working environment. I can't wait to see what the future brings for myself and CCC. I am so grateful for the experience.

We are so grateful for Cathy’s positivity, light, and the deep introspection she brings to the Collective each day!

Columbia Counseling Collective is open to new members! We are a new kind of mental health practice. Our business is centered around our shared values of independence, support, community and growth.
Ever thought about starting your own practice, but don’t want to go through the headache of finding an office space, office sharing, and furnishing? CCC offers affordable, furnished, shared office spaces in downtown Columbia for mental health clinicians. Therapists are able to operate their own independent practices, while working in a supportive collaborative environment.
We have membership plans for part-time, full-time, and fully virtual therapists. Our memberships include networking events, professional development, and CEU trainings.
In private practice but don’t need an office space? Check out our social membership to join the community. Check out our website for membership tiers and pricing. We hope to see you soon for a tour!
