Waiting on baby… 💖

♥️
12/09/2023

♥️

It’s that easy! Just say no and wait for baby to come when ready. God designed this process to be perfect for the timing of baby when they are ready to breathe and live on the outside of the womb, except in rare cases where it can be a life-saving intervention. No one has the right to pressure a woman to force her baby to be born any sooner. Inductions have risks to both mom and baby’s health and should never be done without a medical reason.

Surrender was/is a word that gives me such a challenge (as a control freak in recovery) and unimaginable comfort knowing that I can trust God fully. I clung to it during my pregnancy, I laid my birth plans at God’s feet, and I’m learning more every single day in ALL areas of my life that “A surrendered mind is not one that is no longer in operation. It is, rather, a mind freed from rebellion and opposition. To be Christ’s captive is to be perfectly free.” -Elizabeth Elliot

The thing is birthing within the system has become majorly standardized/medicalized. A lot of the time women are receiving one size fits all healthcare and don’t even realize they have a voice and the most important role in their own healthcare. It’s more crucial now than EVER for moms to be fully informed.

The divine process of women bringing life forth was created by Our Heavenly Father and the primal instinct to do so lies deep within every woman. Women didn’t just forget how to give birth. We’ve grown impatient, allowed interventions and convenience to allow us to accept whatever birth experience we get without question.

Don’t misunderstand me, the medical advances we have in 2023 are astounding and in the event that they are needed, I thank God for them. Moms and babies are saved everyday! Hallelujah! — BUT the number of inductions without a true medical reason/unnecessary cesareans/maternal mortality rate in our country is seriously jaw dropping.

As a Doula, I am passionate not only about educating, encouraging, and praying for my mommas to find their voice, advocate for their desires, pray and petition for the experience they want.. But to realize that childbirth is a gift from God and an opportunity to both embrace and walk in our unique strength and also SURRENDER it all to the One who loves us most. God is with us always, but there is a special nearness to Him when we are growing and birthing new life that was knit together by Him. ALL VARIETIES OF BIRTH can truly be a beautiful/spiritual experience FAR from what is depicted in most movies. ♥️

SO If you want to..

❕Have an intentional birth experience?

❕Go into labor feeling confident & prepared?

❕Reduce the chance of unwanted interventions?

❕Have your partner feel confident and prepared to support you in labor?

I would LOVE to talk with you!

10cm does not = ready to push♥️✨

10cm does not = ready to push♥️✨

Cervical dilation. 🍩
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s often believed that once you’ve reached full dilation, your caregiver will instruct you to start pushing with all your might. But it's actually best to avoid "coached pushing" by anyone attending your birth.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
During the second stage of (unmedicated) birth, a birthing woman will experience the Fetal Ejection Reflex. By working with your body and only pushing when YOU feel the urge, you’re able to better utilize your energy and work with your breath. Your tissues can stretch more slowly and you drastically reduce the risk of tearing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Birth is an intricate series of events with each one triggering the next. Imagine if someone started screaming at you to “PUSH-PUSH” as soon as you sat on the toilet for a bowel movement. It wouldn’t be helpful, right?! Sometimes you just need a moment to get things moving.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So even if your cervix has reached 10cm, it’s not uncommon to need a moment of rest before you “get the urge.” This is called the ‘Rest and Be Thankful’ stage.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Only your body possesses the intrinsic wisdom of knowing when everything within you is perfectly aligned to finally push your baby into the world.

Wait for white♥️♥️♥️

Wait for white♥️♥️♥️

Do you know the benefits of optimising cord clamping at birth??

Optimised cord clamping is specific to each baby. It is dependent on their birth circumstances and that of mum too. So this is not an exact number.

But in an ideal world ‘OPTIMAL’ is “waiting for white”. This means we leave the cord as long as it takes for all the blood to empty, it will no longer be pulsing and the cord appears white.

But why do we do this? Well, take a look:

🩸 The placenta and cord is all part of your baby’s circulatory system, early clamping and cutting deprives your baby of nearly a third (30%) of their blood volume and this can be as high has half (50%) in preemies. It’s their blood. They should have it.

🩸By optimising cord clamping we allow baby to receive upwards of a million stem cells. Stem cells are pretty special in that they can turn in to any cell required by the body. Why bank them when baby can have them at birth?

🩸 Early cord clamping is linked to iron deficiency anaemia. It affects over 40% of the worlds children. It impacts their learning and neurological development.

🩸Research tells us if you have a prem or compromised baby then they would hugely benefit from optimising cord clamping (given the reasons here it’s easy to see why).

🩸Early cord clamping reduces your baby’s white blood cells by about 30%. We use white blood cells to fight infection! Very important for a newborn.

🩸There is NO evidence supporting early cord clamping. Which suggests it’s done for practitioner convenience over benefits to mum and baby.

So when thinking about your preference for birth have a think about how many benefits we can give our babies just by asking for delayed cord clamping optimal for you and your baby!

“Why are we so ready to assign responsibility to the Creator for women's suffering during child birth and yet so quick to turn to man-made drugs to interrupt this divinely ordained process?"

Maybe, we find and gain more understanding of the blessing and intentions of God inside of that curse that crushes the head of the enemy? What happens when we look straight at that curse head on while soley leaning on and trusting in Him, and not running from it in our own ways?

God is intentional. It’s not for nothing. There’s a reason child birth redeems us. Why are we running from it?”

I came across this question in one of the natural birth groups I am a member of and I was in awe. It is very thought provoking! A dear friend of mine, Jennifer Scalise Vicknair once said that “Natural birth is the best feeling ever. I yearn to birth again even though my days for that have passed. The closeness to Yahweh in that moment is like nothing else. It's like your physically touching Him in the exact moment your pushing babe out.” 💞

I know and respect that natural birth is not the desire of every Momma’s heart and that is absolutely okay.. but for those of you who DO have the deep desire to birth unhindered, know that you absolutely can, you’re not crazy for wanting to, and you are NEVER alone. Your body is strong, and our God is stronger! ♥️

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
—Joshua 1:9

For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.
—Philippians 2:13

“Whether the mother hopes to give birth hanging from a tree by her armpit hair or is planning an elective caesarean, the doula is there. Whether she wants an epidural from the onset or plans on going utterly drug free, the doula is there. Completely without judgment, she only serves to support the mother in the birth that she desires.” 🤪😂♥️
