As a mental health therapist I see many people from many walks of life and in many shades and colors. POC are all too often are unrepresented and undervalued in our society, through no fault of their own. Systemic racism still exists in 2023 in America. In fact I think it is misrepresentative to say that POC are minorites. While it is true it still brings to mind that our country has historically been white centric. This is unfair to persons of color. This is unfair to others in other cultures and hertiage. I personally have taught my children (who are adults now and hopefully will spread this message) that even if there are more people around who look like you does not mean that you are more powerful. I teach them that we are of one world, many people, many cultures. I teach them to honor others cultures and hertiages. I see your color and honor it. I recognize that I am speaking from a place of privilege. So my friends of different colors and from different cultures, if I have said anything that seems from your perspective as inflammatory or incorrect, please enlighten me.
