Topics include:
- Diagnostic and Treatment technology: where and when it adds value
- How technology is helping physicians personalize care and accelerate better patient outcomes
- How the world of functional neurology balances advancements in medical tech and the education needed to adequately leverage it

While Memorial Day is an opportunity to spend time with family and friends instead of showing up to work on just another Monday morning, it's important to remember the meaning of this day; to honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

We are forever grateful. 🇺🇸

February is American Heart Month! Throughout February we want to bring awareness to various cardiovascular diseases!

Coronary Autonomic Neuropathy (CAN) refers to damage to the Autonomic Nervous System, which controls involuntary bodily functions like heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. In the context of coronary arteries, CAN can affect the regulation of heart rate and blood flow, increasing the risk of cardiovascular events like heart attack or sudden death. It’s often seen in patients with Diabetes.

Testing for Coronary Autonomic Neuropathy typically involves a few diagnostic methods which assess heart rate variability, blood pressure regulation, and autonomic responses to various stimuli. Some common tests include:

- Heart Rate Variability (HRV): This measures the variation in time between heartbeats. Reduced variability may suggest autonomic dysfunction.

- Tilt Table Test: This test evaluates how the body responds to changes in position, such as standing up from a lying position. In CAN, there may be an abnormal drop in blood pressure or heart rate observed when laying down or standing up.

- Deep Breathing Test: This test measures how heart rate changes with deep breathing. Typically a patients blood pressure and heart rate should decrease when performing deep breathing exercises, and if that response is abnormal, it could indicate autonomic dysfunction.

- Blood Pressure Variability: Assessment of blood pressure changes with various maneuvers or during exercise. Decreased variability could indicate autonomic damage.

According to Published Studies, Cardiovascular Autonomic Neuropathy occurs in almost 40% of Diabetics (Type 1 & Type 2).

"Physicians are being paid nearly 30% less for the same work we did two decades ago, while costs to provide care and run an office have soared." -AMA President Bruce A. Scott, MD

While Morningside Medical Equipment doesn't bill insurances, or call for prior authorizations, or deal with denials, we are in constant communication with our physicians and know the struggles. It's why we work with as many relevant, reimbursable diagnostic and treatment solutions as possible.

If we can help physicians refer one less test out that applies to a whole demographic of patients, it means a quicker path to treatment, and additional revenue to offset the perpetual decline of allowable reimbursement.
