Healthy Blue South Carolina We have a name you can trust. When you cover yourself in Blue, it’s all about you. We have a history of caring. We launched our first HMO in 1984. government.

In 2008, we added our Medicaid option for people who are eligible in South Carolina. When we first went live, we were in 34 counties with fewer than 10,000 members. Since then, we are proud to say we have grown to be in every county in the state. Our main focus is you. We make sure:
• You have low copayments for visits to doctors and for generic or brand drugs.
• You get free extra benefits like a free cellphone with free monthly minutes, data and text messages; a reloadable card to use at certain retail stores if you get your checkups; free car seat; girl scout membership; boys and girls club membership and free books for your young child.
• We have a prenatal program for moms-to-be.
• We also have a nurse help line you can call 24/7 to talk privately about any health topic. Or you can get help deciding what to do or where to go for a health problem.
• Our local staff can help you. Community Resource Coordinators help match your needs with local resources to get you the right care.
• When you need one, you get a case manager. A case manager will work with you and your doctors to help you take care of health issues like asthma, diabetes and pregnancy. Let's talk about Alzheimer's Disease.

This Alzheimer's Awareness Month, let's acknowledge the incredible challenges faced by families living with this disease. Alzheimer's, a brain disease affecting millions, can rob individuals of their memories and independence.

We offer our deepest appreciation to the family members who serve as caregivers. Their dedication, patience and love provide immeasurable support to those living with Alzheimer's.

Together, we can make a difference:
• Learn about Alzheimer's: Understand the signs and symptoms to provide early support.
• Talk openly: Discuss Alzheimer's with friends and family to raise awareness.
• Support a cure: Contribute to organizations researching treatments and a cure.

For families in South Carolina, the Alzheimer's Association SC Chapter offers free help and information. Visit https://www.alz.org/sc to learn more.

Today, we thank and honor all veterans who served our country. At Healthy Blue South Carolina, we’re here to support veterans’ health—not just today, but every day.

Mental health is an important part of overall health. We know that veterans can face unique challenges, especially when adjusting to civilian life. If you or someone you know is a veteran needing mental health support, here are some helpful resources in South Carolina:

South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs can help with benefits, counseling, and more. Visit scdva.sc.gov or call (803) 734-0200.

Veterans Crisis Line offers 24/7 support for veterans in crisis. Call 988 and press 1, text 838255, or chat at veteranscrisisline.net.

South Carolina Vet Centers offer free counseling for veterans, service members, and their families. Find one near you at vetcenter.va.gov or call 1-877-WAR-VETS (1-877-927-8387).

Let’s show our gratitude by supporting the mental health of South Carolina’s veterans. They deserve our care and respect.

November is Healthy Skin Month! 🧴✨

Did you know the colder months can be tough on your skin? As temperatures drop, the air gets drier, and so does our skin. This can lead to flare-ups of skin conditions like eczema and other dryness-related issues. Taking extra care of your skin during the winter is important, especially for children, whose skin can be more sensitive.

Here’s how you can protect your skin this season:
• Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin moisturized from the inside out.
• Get enough rest: Sleep helps your skin heal and stay healthy.
• Moisturize daily: Use a good lotion or cream after showers to lock in moisture. Don’t forget the kids—moisturizing their skin is just as important!
• Eat skin-friendly foods: Foods rich in Vitamin C (like oranges), Vitamin E (like nuts and seeds), and Omega-3s(like fish) help keep your skin glowing and strong.

Healthy habits now can keep your skin happy all winter long. For more tips and information, visit the American Academy of Dermatology’s website: www.aad.org.

Flu season is upon us, and it's more important than ever to get your flu shot. The flu can be a serious illness, especially for young children, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions.

Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the flu. It's also a quick and easy way to stay healthy this fall and winter.

Here are some of the benefits of getting your flu shot:
✔️ Reduces your risk of getting the flu by up to 60%
✔️ Can make the flu milder if you do get it
✔️ Protects those around you who can't get vaccinated, such as young children and people with weakened immune systems

As a Healthy Blue member, you get your flu shot for free! Simply contact your doctor to schedule an appointment.

Don't wait until it's too late. Get your flu shot today!

Happy Halloween from Healthy Blue! 🎃👻

As you and your little ghosts and goblins get ready for Halloween, remember these safety tips:

• Candy Safety: Look closely at candy before giving it to kids. Make sure no one has opened or messed with it.

• Costume Safety: Choose costumes that are flame-resistant and fit well to avoid trips and falls.

• Mask Safety: Select masks or face coverings that do not block vision and allow for easy breathing.

• Safe Treats: Offer healthy options like fruit, nuts or granola bars instead of candy.

• Go with a Buddy: Always trick-or-treat with an adult or trusted friend.

• Stay Aware: Be aware of your surroundings and only visit well-lit homes.

• Road Safety: Use sidewalks when available. Trick-or-treat during daylight or early evening hours. Only visit houses with their front porch lights on.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
