Not all arthritis is the same. And understanding the difference matters more than you think.

Two of the most common types are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. While both cause joint pain, they are very different conditions.

Here is a simple breakdown:

• Osteoarthritis is wear and tear over time. It develops slowly as cartilage breaks down, often affecting knees, hips, and spine.
• Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition. The body attacks its own joints, causing inflammation, swelling, and sometimes whole-body symptoms like fatigue.

You may notice:
• Osteoarthritis pain builds throughout the day
• Rheumatoid arthritis often causes longer morning stiffness and can affect both sides of the body

The key takeaway? The cause of your joint pain determines the right treatment.

If something feels off, ongoing, or different than expected, it is worth getting the right diagnosis early.

Is it back pain… or something more?

If you have ever said, “I think it’s sciatica,” you are not alone. The two are often confused, but they are not the same thing.

Here is a simple way to think about it:

• Back pain usually stays in the lower back and feels achy, stiff, or tight
• Sciatica often travels down the leg and can feel sharp, burning, or electric

That one difference can completely change how it should be treated.

Most muscle or joint-related back pain responds well to movement, therapy, and simple treatments. Sciatica, which involves nerve irritation, may require more targeted care like injections or specialized treatment plans

The key is understanding what your body is telling you.

If pain is lasting more than a few weeks, traveling down your leg, or interfering with daily life, it is worth getting answers.
