The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment serves as the Midlands community resource for individuals with autism and their families. Our mission is to help individuals with autism reach their full potential by providing comprehensive, evidence-based services and collaborative solutions for the needs of the autism community. Our founders, Dan and Lorri Unumb, began their autism advocacy journey around t
he globe over 15 years ago. Their passion to help families who could not afford treatment inspired them to author “Ryan’s Law,” passed in 2007. Named in honor of their son, the law required health insurance to cover autism treatment and ignited a national autism insurance movement. In 2010, they joined forces with other concerned parents and youth development professionals to create the Autism Academy of South Carolina. In 2019, it was renamed The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment in honor of the family’s contributions to the autism community. The Unumb Center strives to empower individuals with autism to reach new milestones. Current services include: applied behavior analysis, diagnostic testing and assessments, individual and family therapy, behavioral feeding therapy, social skills training, summer programming, parent and toddler groups, and job training (new in 2021).
