👶 Today is Infant Clinic Day!
What Every Parent Should Know About Infant Oral Ties
Oral ties occur when the thin bands of tissue in the mouth—such as under the tongue (lingual frenulum), inside the lips (labial frenulum), or in the cheeks (buccal frenulum)—are too tight or restrictive. These restrictions can limit oral movement and make feeding difficult for infants.
🔎 Signs your baby may have an oral tie:
Trouble latching during breastfeeding
Long or painful feedings
Clicking sounds while nursing
Poor weight gain despite frequent feeding
Mom experiencing sore or cracked ni***es
🍽 Why it matters:
Without proper oral movement, babies may struggle with breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and later even speech, swallowing, and oral development. Early recognition makes a big difference.
💡 How treatment helps:
A simple laser procedure can safely release the restriction, often improving feeding immediately. Early treatment supports better nutrition, bonding, and long-term oral health.
At Southern Roots Periodontics, we specialize in gentle, precise treatment for infants with oral ties, helping families find relief and confidence in feeding.
✨ We host an Infant Clinic every other Wednesday dedicated exclusively to infants (newborn to 12 months). We also provide care for toddlers (1–4 years old), children, teens, and adults.
