I was told he could never go on field trips because of his behaviors. Now, he has calming strategies to address his sensory needs instead of being restrained.
This is why MoDE is so important.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Safer Seclusion & Restraint Law.

The most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence!
We were so excited to see MoDE advocate Izzi shining in this photo on Facebook over the weekend and had to ask her mom for permission to share.

SIL is sad to share that the catalytic converters were stolen off of our vehicles overnight, necessitating thousands of dollars in repairs. One of the most critical services SIL offers is convenient transportation for those who need it to get to their dialysis appointments, the grocery store, or the food pantry. We have 6 transport vehicles and employ 7 drivers who transport 240 people per week on average. SIL relies on donors and grant money to fund our transportation program in order to keep costs low for the people we serve, and veterans and their spouses always ride free. We are asking for your help to get our vehicles repaired quickly without limiting the services we offer to those in need of reliable transportation.

No Rest for the Wicked: Journey to the Next Place starts June 15, 2018

Do you ever have one of those days where you receive all these signs from the universe? or angels? or ghosts? or God or whatever other-worldly spirituality you prefer? Today was a day where I received a lot of those signs. They hit me on the head. They ran in front of my car. They stabbed me in the wisdom teeth. They stared at me with young, innocent eyes. They beeped at me through a blood pressure cuff. They hummed through the song my son chose to sing to me. Each one made the same sound, “It’s time.” It’s time to be pushed off my comfort bench and back on a new path. It’s time to be on my way to my next journey. I had looked forward to resting, but there is no rest for the wicked. I will be changing the focus of my advocacy work starting June 15, 2018. I will no longer be taking individual advocacy cases. I will be moving to bigger picture advocacy to focus on training, support, research, and policy change. I will still be fighting for civil rights of people with disabilities, but my focus will be more nation-wide and moving towards a collaborative, grassroots, unified front to tear down barriers. I will continue to refer families to wonderful and capable people and resources to help them, but it will look a bit different. I’m excited to see where the next road takes me. - Lara Wakefield
