Last week, we were honored to celebrate National Salute to Veteran Patients Week, a time dedicated to recognizing the incredible Veterans we serve and the community partners who show up year after year to support them.

Thank you to Miss South Carolina, Soldiers' Angels, Fisher House Columbia, Humana, Elevation Church, and Ricky Sapp for helping make the week so special through greetings, coffee service, item distributions, and countless acts of appreciation. Your continued partnership makes a meaningful difference for our Veteran patients every day.

We are also grateful to the many organizations, volunteers, and community members who stopped by throughout the week to share encouragement, smiles, and support. Your presence reminded our Veterans just how much they are valued.

Additional thanks to our participating partners:

The mission February 19: Spit it out for good.

It’s the Great American Spit Out — a day to quit smokeless to***co and take back control.

Veterans are more likely to use smokeless to***co than civilians. But you don’t have to fight ni****ne alone.

VA provides:
✔️ Quit coaching
✔️ Ni****ne replacement therapy
✔️ Prescription medications
✔️ Support programs

Your next victory starts with one decision.

Ask your VA provider how to get started.

February 19 is the Great American Spit Out.

If you use smokeless to***co, make today the day you quit — even if it’s just for 24 hours.

Smokeless to***co increases your risk for:
• Oral cancer
• Gum disease and tooth loss
• Heart disease
• Ni****ne addiction

You served your country. Now protect your health.

VA offers free to***co cessation support, counseling, and medications to help you quit. www.mentalhealth.va.gov/quit-to***co/

🎉 Celebrating 25 Years of Community Support for Our Veterans! 🇺🇸

This year, the Columbia VA Charity Ride marked a major milestone — 25 incredible years of community commitment to supporting Veterans beyond clinical care. What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a powerful tradition of service, compassion, and partnership.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, this year’s ride raised over $35,000 in monetary donations and $27,000 in in-kind contributions — providing move-in kits, meal vouchers, emergency food, clothing, and more to Veterans across the region.

🤝 Over the years, these contributions have helped:
• Fulfill 2,180 clothing requests — valued at ~$80,000.
• Provide 186 move-in kits for unhoused Veterans (~$51,150).
• Support Thanksgiving & Christmas box distributions for Veterans in need.

This milestone is a testament to what’s possible when our community stands together — honoring those who served with ongoing care, trust, and respect. Thank you to every rider, volunteer, partner, and supporter who has helped write this legacy over the past 25 years!

Thank you to & , for all you do for our Veterans!

95 Years Young, 2,000 Cards Strong: Woman’s Year-Round Tribute to Veterans

COLUMBIA, South Carolina – The daughter, mother and grandmother of a family of Veterans has been making and sending cards to Veterans at the Columbia VA Health Care System for years. The latest box just arrived in time for Valentine’s Day.
Jennie Debertolis, 95, from Little River, South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach, designs and makes cards from scratch for Veterans. Each card is unique. The cards all have an American flag on the inside flap and a personal signature. Many of the cards contain a red, white and blue design.

Thank you to the University of South Carolina Veterans Alumni Council for supporting Veteran families during the Feb. 8 “Give Back Game” at the South Carolina vs. Tennessee women’s basketball matchup.

Through the community’s generosity, more than $10,000 in diapers and wipes was collected, including $6,000 donated to the Columbia VA Health Care System to help Veteran mothers and families in our care.

Special thanks to Navy Veteran Colleen Dibble for delivering the donation and continuing to advocate for Veteran families. Partnerships like these make a meaningful difference for those who have served. 🇺🇸
