Your fall gifts are changing lives! CoMoGives, the project of the Community Foundation of Central MO, ran the month of December. 81 families gave $14,965 for 35 Mobility Carts. Additionally, our fall match drive for $44,000 was met, and our sponsors have given their matching dollars. That built and shipped 200+ more carts.

Thank YOU to everyone who participated in these drives! We are currently producing, on average, 59 Mobility Carts a week. 373 have shipped out in 2026. We are grateful for your dedicated support.

Last fall, Mary Wang'ang'a, Mobility Director, Partners for Care, sent word of the beginning of fulfilling mobility needs to all in the second county of Kenya. The First Lady of Kenya's flagship program, the Njiwa Jiinue Initiative, focuses on women, children, and persons with disabilities, addressing critical community needs and promoting resilience. This is an excerpt of Mary’s report:

"I attended the launch of Mel West Vision 2 at Tharaka Nithi, which took place at two locations. It was a truly inspiring event where 787 people living with disabilities received mobility devices. It was truly humbling to see people who previously had no mobility aids go home happy and with the gift of mobility. I am also deeply humbled for the support we facilitated to make this event possible.

One of the beneficiaries also shared, 'With this mobility device, my world has expanded—thank you for giving me freedom and dignity.'"

On February 10, Mel West wrote a Guest Commentary for the Columbia Missourian. (Excerpts and picture by permission). Mel is a retired pastor and before that, a dairy farmer. He has also worked with or started many non-profits, helping people around the world. You can find his whole article online; here is just an excerpt:

"The “Reader’s Digest” recently asked readers to send in the story of “When I was most proud of my country.” …. This will be my story.

At the close of World War II, Europe was devastated. The incessant bombings and battles and the travels of troops had left cities and towns in piles of rubble, and farmlands trampled by machines of war and raided by hungry troops. Hunger stalked the land as breeding and work animals and seed stores had been eaten.

Gen. George Marshall Jr. went to President Harry Truman, described the situation and said, “Mr. President, we must rebuild what we destroyed, and we must do it now.” The Marshall Plan was immediately begun. I had a very small part in it by soliciting farm animals to ship. The “Victory Ships” that carried troops during the war were put to work to haul whatever was donated or purchased — food, grain, seeds, work animals, food animals, farm machinery, medicines, tools and much more. Hundreds of ships plied the waters that had carried our troops with their tools of destruction. Volunteers from the peace churches were on board to care for the animals.

….. When a shipload was being dedicated in Germany, the German official receiving the load said, “Never before in the history of humankind has the defeated nation been treated with such generosity and grace as you have treated us.” - Mel West, Founder

Interested in volunteering, but aren't sure if you have the right skills? We provide training!

For the shop, we use a VKS software package which links to iPads showing step-by-step instructions. Once you are initially trained, you use the iPads on your return visits to guide your volunteer work. Usually, volunteers do a specific task each week, though some are cross-trained and fill in as needed. Beyond the shop, office volunteers cover a morning or afternoon shift each week.
