Exciting updates are here at RM Speech! 🎉

We’re introducing our new Mobile Device Management (MDM) system, which will allow us to better support AAC devices over time. With MDM, future RM Speech devices will offer greater flexibility, including the ability to update or change AAC software as a patient’s communication needs evolve. This means more long-term support for both clinicians and device users.

As part of this update, you may notice a small change in the initial device setup process, including signing in with an Apple ID before installing communication software. Step-by-step instructions will always be included with each device, and our team is here to help if needed. Current changes have already taken effect for Nuvo S, with rollout anticipated in mid to late April for Nuvo deliveries.

Important note:
Devices that were delivered prior to the MDM rollout will not be eligible for software changes through this system. Any software changes for those devices will continue to follow the standard insurance funding process.

If you have questions, need help with setup, or would like access to our Knowledge Base, please reach out to support@rmspeech.com. Our AAC Success Coach, Casey Sheehan, is also available to provide guidance and support.

We’re excited about how this update will help us better support AAC users throughout their communication journey.

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day Therapy Idea for Adults (AAC-Friendly) 🍀
“Lucky Memories & Favorites” Conversation Activity

Use St. Patrick’s Day as a theme to encourage conversation, storytelling, and choice making with AAC users.

How it works:
Present pictures or items related to St. Patrick’s Day (shamrocks, rainbows, gold coins, Irish food, green clothing). Ask the individual to choose their “lucky favorites” and talk about them using their AAC device.

Prompts you can use:

“What is your favorite St. Patrick's memory?”

“Do you like this (item/food)? Why/why not?”

“Tell me about a lucky moment.”

“What makes you feel lucky?”

Functional outcomes:
✔️ Supports social conversation
✔️ Encourages expressing preferences and opinions
✔️ Builds narrative and memory recall skills

✨ Therapy tip: Pair AAC modeling with real objects or photos to make conversations more meaningful and support comprehension.

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day AAC Therapy Idea: Lucky Leprechaun Hunt! 🍀

Turn your therapy session into a fun St. Patrick’s Day treasure hunt while building communication with AAC.

Hide shamrocks, gold coins, or leprechaun pictures around the room. As your student finds each item, model language on their AAC device to help them request, comment, and direct the activity.

Core words to model:
➡️ go
➡️ look
➡️ find
➡️ more
➡️ help
➡️ in / out

Fringe words:
🌈 rainbow
🍀 shamrock
🪙 gold
🧝 leprechaun
💚 green

Try modeling phrases like:
• “Go look!”
• “I found it!”
• “More gold.”
• “Help me.”
• “Put in.”

✨ Therapy tip: Focus on modeling language naturally during play—no pressure for the child to imitate. Exposure builds communication!

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and this year’s theme is “We’re Here: Then, Now, Always.” — a reminder that people with developmental disabilities have always been part of our communities and will continue shaping them for generations to come. National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities launched the campaign to highlight progress from a past where many individuals were excluded, to a present where people with disabilities are active participants in their schools, workplaces, and communities.

At RM Speech, we believe one of the most powerful tools for inclusion is communication.

Speech-generating devices and AAC systems help ensure individuals with complex communication needs can share their ideas, advocate for themselves, build relationships, and participate fully in everyday life. Because everyone deserves to be heard — not just sometimes, but always.

This month, we celebrate the voices, stories, and contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities and remain committed to supporting communication access then, now, and always.

There’s the documentation.
The device trials.
Funding requirements.
And the pressure to get it right.

The truth is: you don’t have to navigate the process alone.

At RM Speech, we support SLPs through the entire AAC device journey—from initial questions and device trials to evaluations and funding guidance.

Our goal is simple: make the AAC evaluation process more approachable so more individuals can access communication.

Because when clinicians feel supported, more voices are heard.
