Did You Know?
AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices aren’t just for children who are nonverbal! Many kids with a variety of diagnoses can benefit from AAC to support their communication, including:

-Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
-Language Delay / Global Developmental Delay
-Speech Sound Disorders
-Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
-Selective Mutism
-ADHD with communication challenges
-Late talkers who need a bridge to spoken language
-Cerebral Palsy
-Neuromuscular conditions
-Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
-Medically complex conditions (including tracheostomy)
-Genetic or chromosomal conditions (e.g., Down Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome, Rett Syndrome)
-Deaf or Hard of Hearing
-Auditory Processing challenges
-Sensory regulation differences impacting communication

AAC can help children express themselves, participate in daily activities, and build confidence—whether they speak a little, a lot, or are just learning to use words.

We were so grateful for the opportunity to have our Internal AAC Consultant, Krissy, learn from current research, connect with fellow SLPs, and gain valuable insight into the evolving needs of the AAC community at ASHA 2025. The convention truly reinforced the importance of staying curious, staying informed, and staying connected.
